Great Moderately Priced Hotel - High Quality
by remarck about Hotel San Bosco
Checked into the Hotel San Bosco after looking at about 10 other hotels/inns/hostels over the course of about an hour. And the San Bosco was actually recommended by some fellow travelers I met on a white-water rafting adventure.
It is a very clean; the cleaning staff is always sweeping the grounds. Saw no roaches. It has air-conditioning, private bath, a big pool and jacuzzi, both which have a clear view of the volcano (I mean, this volcano dominates everything in town, so you'd have to be underground to not have a view of it). There were no private phones, but there is a pay phone on the premises, along with 24 hour self-serve coffee bar. There are nice restaurants and many shops within 30 second walking distance, as well as an Internet Cafe. When I go back to CR, I will stay here.
Unbelieveable Prices for the Best in Town
by Jase1177 about Hotel San Bosco
The Hotel San Bosco is a great place for a great price. Although the hotels as part of the hot springs may be higher end, this is said to be the best place in town.
The hotel is located only two short blocks from the town square in a walled & fenced in facility. It provides a peaceful setting only a couple minutes from the center of town. There are several buildings on the grounds providing singles to quintuples and even an apartment for up to eight. There are two pools - one regular, one a wading pools, two outdoor jacuzzis, an open air gym equipment, and a couple open-air lounges. Even the grounds have a tropical garden look to them.
The rooms are nicely furnished, some with tv and such. My room had a private hot shower, a/c & two twin beds for on $30 a night. They will even offer a cash discount. Everything was quite clean and pleasant. There were always housekeeping staff sweeping or cleaning something around the grounds. One of the best features of this place was a third level observation deck. It is the tallest location in town and offers great direct views of the volcano. There are a couple tables and chairs up there to let you sit and enjoy the view and even wait for the cloude to clear in order to get a good photo. Make sure you take the time to spend a few moments up there.
I would definitely recommend this hotel for anyone looking for an enjoyable stay in La Fortuna without having to stay far away at the hot springs hotels.
Fortuna's best hotel
by BEETLE_VERTE about San Bosco
We had reservation for a cabin outside (800m) of Fortuna with another hotel, but headed back when we discovered that the city ends up pretty quickly and there's nothing there but dirt roads to reach the promised cabina. We travel by bus and taxi, so we wouldn't enjoy the city as much if we stayed that far, althought we later saw very nice and even more luxurious hotels and cabins on the road. If you have a car, it could very well be worth it. On our back to the city, we choose to stay at the San Bosco.
Our stay at San Bosco was amazing and even more since we discovered it almost by accident, freneticaly trying to find a bed for the night with our backpack on our shoulders. The price was suprinsigly low for all we've got: big clean room, dresser and huge shelves (a must when backpacking!), very nice and clean bathroom, remote controlled A/C! 35$ a night Nice landscape and balcony where we watched for hummingbirds. All you can drink amazing costarican cofee, pool, hammock and my all-time favorite: jaccuzis! All that under the Arenal volcano.
Just a street away from the main attractions in the city, but very calm.
Aside from the Estrellamar hotel in Jaco, this is our best stay. And one of our fondest memory.
Excellent service with the view at a volcano
by Srechko about Hotel San Bosco (La Fortuna)
We spent here our second night in Costa Rica. This is the only real hotel in Fortuna and it is the most expensive one.
We were impressed by the receptionist here, he was very helpful and friendly and he organized the canopy tour for us.
Everything about this hotel was great and I would definitely recommend it to anyone.
Double room was $50. Hotel has a pool and 2 jacuzzis, our room was on the 1st floor and we had a nice terrace with a view at a volcano. Free coffee, nice location and hotel organizes all kinds of tours.

hotel recommendations

It's been a long time since I've visited La Fortuna. Obviously I have a bias for the place (my name is Kevin Fortuna), and I've been meaning to get back there. Can anyone recommend a decent hotel that is nice, clean, but not too expensive? Thanks!

In the village of La Fortuna, I recommend Hotel San Bosco. The rooms are neat and clean, the grounds well kept, and they have a pool and hot tub. Centrally located in Fortuna, you can walk to restaurants and shops. The third floor has an observation deck too. There are hotels closer to the volcano but naturally they are higher priced. Hope this helps! Lisa in Manuel Antonio

Just some quick advice as to where not to stay! We stayed at a place called Hostal Las Palmas, which though clean, was run by a bit of a psycho. He does tours himself but he thought we had organised tours with a different tour operator so he went a bit crazy about that and when we came to pay he demanded a mental dollar - colones exchange rate and got physically agressive when we refused to pay it. If you can avoid it, don´t go there!
