Don Taco: Don Taco
This is the hotel I've always stayed at in Monteverde and they do a great job. It is at the top of the hill which is a bit far but no real problem. Clean rooms, good breakfast, certainly a recommendable choice. The owners and his daughters who run the place are friendly and can help you with all your needs.

Hotel Pacande: Quiet, Friendly, Helpful, Great Value Hotel
Really cute place located just a couple kilometers from the international airport outside of San Jose. Charming and tasteful decorations, helpful owners, nice rooms. A great place to stay while flying into or out of Costa Rica.
$25 for one person with shared bathroom. $35 for one person with private bathroom.
The owners accept USD or colones.
Unique Quality: Very close to the airport. Free internet. Very helpful owners armed with maps, tourist info, and good conversation.

I'll remember: The staff at the cabins
A very friendly and helpful group. There is a small pool a cafe style restaurant on premise but the volcano is the main attraction.

Hotel Lavas Tacotal: Cabin by Arenal
The cabins are just down the road from the Tabacon Hotel where the hot springs are located. The hotel there is nice but rather expensive. This cabin is $50 a night with nothing between you and the volcano but a field. If the volcano did anything out of the ordinary during the night the staff would come around and wake you up so you could watch, or run.

Hotel Martino: Not far outside San Jose
This is a very nice hotel. Alfonso, the owner, is from Italy and a very fine chef. Will (from Michigan USA) is his right hand man and web site manager.
