Don Carlos Hotel: High quality at a low price

After many visits to San Jose staying in expensive hotels to hostels, I finally stayed in a place that always interested me because I would visit their great gift shop while staying in other lodging. Don Carlos would surely satisfy the most picky travelor at a great price. The location is perfect, it is close to great parks and the active center of town, which is a great area to explore.

The artwork and decor is really something to see. This place is a gem!

Casa 69: A cozy refuge in bustling San Jose

Beautiful House, gracious and funny German host Kurt - knows all the ins and outs of San Jose Gay Night Life. A sanctuary of gardens in the midst of a pretty bustling city. Nice clean rooms and he's more than willing to sit down with you and share a rum and coke or a glass of wine.

Peaceful. Great coffee and fresh baked bread with local jams. Kurt exchanges your money at the days current rate! (well, he did for us)

And the room was $50, with a safe, a tv, ceiling fan.

And regardless what anyone might say about the train - you don't need a alarm clock and its charming-ish.

Courtyard Marriott San Jose: Very good for a first day arrival

After a long flight into San Jose, it was nice to call this hotel and receive a free shuttle from the airport. When we arrived, we checked in quickly. The lobby that wasn't too over the top fancy. It was full of beautiful extras for a first night's sleep. Our room was large with a comfortable bed. The next morning, we had breakfast downstairs...everything was great. My favorite was the fresh fruit of Costa Rica.
Weloved it!

Pool, big breakfasts, cable, a free shuttle to and from the airport (about 10 minutes away)
