Hotel Villablanca: Cozy chalets

Three km south of Zarcero is the road leading to Villablanca. You may think that it is the name of a town but it is in fact a hotel set in the Los Angeles Cloud Forest Reserve. The private reserve was opened in 1991 on part of the cattle ranch owned by former president Rodrigo Carazo.

The main hotel and restaurant looks like a farmhouse but there are also 30 nice chalets surrounding the ranch. Each chalet has a small fireplace to ward of the cool night chill. The hills are covered with forest and there are 210 species of birds there. Many species of hummingbirds come to eat out of the feeders. Capuchin, spider, and Howler monkeys abound in the trees.
