We loved our stay at Montana de Fuego. The views are splendid from every angle. On one side you have a view of the volcano and on the other you have a view of continuous, lush, tropical rain forest. The staff is extremely helpful, polite and attentive. The resort is well-kept and the cabins are absolutely lovely. The resort is a bit removed from the town of La Fortuna, but I do not feel like we were missing anything. There is a fine restaurant on site that offers breakfast, lunch and dinner. They also offer spa services and they have an activities office. And if you feel like a short hike, there is a resort trail one can take through the rain forest down to the river.

Good service, great location, small but cozy rooms. They lost our reservation, but quickly remedied the problem and got us into our room. Beds were a little hard but after driving most of the day didn't have any problem sleeping.
Unique Quality: I believe all the cabins have a view (stunning) of Arenal Volcano. Hardwood floors, nicely furnished, private bathroom.

This is another restaurant close to La Fortuna town that rewards you with great volcano views on nice and sunny days. We did not eat here (we went to Linda Vista instead), but you should consider it if you do not have enough time to get to Linda Vista Restaurant. It will take you about 45 minutes to get to Linda Vista from Acuarelas.
Acuarelas restaurant is located inside the Montana de Fuego Resort and Spa.

I don't know if you've ever been to Costa Rica before, but it's a great country! I was there for a month 2 years ago. Most food in Costa Rica is of the tipico (typical) variety. Most plates have a meat such as grilled chicken (pollo a la plancha), fried plantains, picadillo of cherimoya or other veggie and rice and beans. There isn't as much variety or innovation, but the food is tasty, and you can always add hot sauce. In La Fortuna, there is a place I don't remember the name of, but I know the location: but if you head down the main drag of the city, with the grassy plaza and church on your right and the volcano straight ahead, there is a restaurant at the end of the strip on teh right side of the street. I liked it because the food is tipico, the beer is cold, and you can sit at an outside wood table and watch the passers-by. In the middle of town there is a good breakfast place, ask the locals. Please let me know if you need info on other parts of the country, you'll love it!

My favorite place is El Novillo. It is between Arenal Paraiso and Montana de Fuego lodges. A wonderful Filet Mignon dinner will run about $7-11. They also have great burgers and sea food. It doesn't look like much but the food is wonderful and when the volcano is clear you have a great view.
