One of the best hotels in Junquillal. very clean, has a pool and pariking area. Junquillal is very remote and this hotel is a nice surprise in such a remote location. I recommend over other options in the area.
No views but a very nice grounds and pool as well as a very good restaurant.
Minimum accommodation. Fairly clean, but not much protection from bugs. very low end. recommend because it is affordable. good for college students. not great for families.
Unsual gate entrance. also has on of the best restaurants in this small beach town, however, recently it never seems to be open. The owner of the restaurant is different than the owner of the hotel.
Playa Junquillal is at the end of a long dirt road that turns off from the dirt road that runs along the coast of Nicoya Peninsula. Beautiful beach, very lay back, with good surfing

Beautiful... the rooms have beautiful wood furniture, they are clean, bathrooms a little small. Geourgeous pool area surrounded by nature, you can hear and see the monkeys. I would recommend this hotel if you are traveling with children as well as couples.
It's the only hotel in Playa Hermosa that have it's own beach front. Beautiful views of the ocean. Great service too.

This was the absolute best week of travelling. The rooms are these great little bungalows set in the mountains surrounded by lush greenery and much wildlife.
The resort only has two a la carte restaurants and 1 buffet restaurant. It also has two snack bar areas that server great food. The one near the pool has the best nachos and the one near the spa has healthier choices as well amazing smoothies.
There are a couple of swimming pools that are not very large but due just fine for a small resort. The main pool is an infinity pool that is really pretty and has a swim up bar as well as another bar just next to it so no reason to go empty handed.
The beach is nice and the water is very warm. There is some great snorkeling to the left of the beach.
There is a private beach just off to the write where you will almost always see monkeys in the morning.
The resort offers great free trips such as kayaking, snorkeling, jungle tour, bike tour and sunset tour. We took advantage of all of these and it the guides were great.
The night entertainment is what you make of it and we had a blast because we got to know the workers from the resort so well who are also the performers at night.
The only complaint was the music during the day a little too much Ann Murray for my tast but we eventually had them connect our ipod to there system and everyone applauded.
Great little bungalows, not the towering hotels you may be use too.
Black Sand on the beach

We didn't stay here but it is a good choice for beachfront. It is right on the beach which is good for strolling to other restuarants in the evening. They have lounge chairs and shade for their guests too. We had a look around and it looked nice and we liked the restaurant and there is live music a couple of times a week. It was fully booked and rooms are $90.00 per couple.

The rooms are basic with no TV . Clean with good shower.
The big drawback here is that you're somewhat captured without a car. Its a very dark walk along the beach to most restaurants and the taxis are expensive $10.00 min.
You can walk to the beach , its about 10-15 min .
Good live music some nights.

The best part was the view! Lake Arenal was sprawled out in front of us.We stayed in one of the bungalows, and it had a front porch and huge picture window. Breakfast was served in an open air dining area that looks out to the lake, of course. The food and staff were excellent. Unfortunately, the waitress informed us they may be closing soon, and we were quite surprised since it was such a lovely, warm environment.
The mosaic tiled bathtub!

We did not stay here, but stumbled upon it when looking for our hotel. They had a very cool restaurant with the best spinach raviolis I've ever had! It had a very relaxed, zen earthy vibe. The open fireplace in the lobby area was amazing. I believe they have separate bungalows, and offer yoga classes.
We were there at night, but the brochure shows spectacular views of Arenal Volcano and lake. Loved the vibe and decor.
