What would you do...
We are planning to be in Nicaragua in July, mostly in Matagalpa, doing community service. We have four days at the end of our trip to pamper ourselves. The idea of a fabulous beach resort in Costa Rica,
where we might snorkle, or perhaps do some eco tourism is very appealing. Any recommendations?

I'm also planning a trip to Costa Rica later this year. I want to spend some time in a national park inland and then travel out to the beach. I've heard Guanacaste, on the Gulf of Papagayo is a great beach area with lots of top notch hotels, or the Nicoya Peninsula. I'm looking at Tango Mar on the Nicoya Penninsular, but also considering Flamingo Beach Resort in Guanacaste. Take a look at a vacation express as they've got a great CR booking engine - I'm thinking of using them.

The travel agent that I used when I went (Costa Rica Travel Exchange aka www.LoveCostaRica.com) recommends Hotel Las Tres Banderas as the best budget hotel in Manual Antonio. (under $100)# - centrally located with all the amenities you expect. He also lists
# Karahe Hotel and Villas - same price - located on the beach, 10 minutes from Manuel Antonio National Park, sportfishing is wonderful here
In Guanacaste he lists
# Capitan Suizo $175.00 - $300.00: Set on the beach with beautiful gardens and huge, exotic pool
# Hotel Sugar Beach $175.00 - $300.00: Right on the Pacific, this is an oasis of comfort and luxury
# Florblanca Resort over $300.00: Luxury oceanside villas with peace, quiet and beauty all around
We actually stayed on the Osa peninsula at Drakes Bay, but it wasn't what I would describe as a beach resort. They did offer day trips and snorkeling and the like.
