Great location. Great potential. Great beach access with palapas and lounges right on the beach. Many great views from upper rooms but access is steep and out of public view. While we were there 2-17 through 2-23 there were 4 burglaries. Owner was grouchy and unsympathetic. 10 minute walk to town and you pass several nice eateries. Great complimentary breakfast at 7 AM. Bar/grill upstairs was not in operation. Reservations were "lost" and some didn't get what they expected. Security box is extra and you should use it. Facility seemed to be in decline and did not reflect website. Acceptance of credit cards, travelers cheques varied from person to person. I would not recommend at this time unless you were very vigilant. Friendly rooster goes off at all hours of night. Road to other houses runs between facility and beach and vehicles kick dust on loungers.
Unique Quality: Great view from upper rooms. Great location next to beach. Great potential for unused bar/grill area upper deck.

We enjoyed Samara last August and stayed at a wonderul place: Villas Kalimba. Check out the website (www.villaskalimba.com). It was across the street from the beach, walking distance to shops and grocery store. As I recall Hotel Las Brisas looked nice and was on the beach, but further out of town. Not having a car at the time, we preferred Villas Kalimba. We spoke to someone who stayed at Hotel Las Brisas and they thought we had a better location. We did not see animals in that area as we did in the Manual Antionio area. It is more of a beach...some wild dogs and horses, though! The parks are far from there. We had 2 wks and relaxed there but went to Arenal and MA for more touristy things...also rafted the Sarapiqui and saw a lot. We preferred Samara for the quiet beach as we wanted to relax, too! Hope this helped a little, Joyce
hello joyciej, i am also thinking about LAS BRISAS and you refered to a couple that stayed there and they said you had a better location. Can you please tell me what they meant? We they refering to your proximity to town?
I visited 2-17 through 2-23-05. It has great potential right on the beach with palapas. 10 minutes to town, but along the beach you pass a couple of restaurants like La Bahia, La Vela Latina, Shake Joe's, and El Ancla (which is great eats.) Here's the downside. While there, within the first two days, there were four burglaries and a host of items stolen. There was no forced entry, so...The place was declining in maintenance and many complained about not getting their value. There were mixed stories whether they'd accept traveler's cheques or credit cards. Since they stole my traveler's cheques, cards were all I had left. Too bad, because it ruined an idyllic beach and great views.
