Travel Tips for Sámara

One of the Best Beaches in Costa Rica!

by blueskyjohn

Playa Barrigona is a some what remote beach, each time I have been here I was the only one. I have found sea turtle tracks so they can lay eggs.

Travel south out of Playa Samara. There are no signs for the turnoff to this beach. The turn off for the beach is at these coordinates:
N9 53.546 W85 34.463

The beach itself is at: N9 53.004 W85 34.583

Other people do know about this beach as the last time I was here the parking area is better but garbage is piling up. If you do not have four wheel drive be careful. The dirt road is rough.

Enjoy!

Playa Samara, quiet time on the beach

by Tom_In_Madison

Samara is a small town, about 4-5 hours from San Jose. The ‘touristy’ part consists of about 5 streets right now. It’s a beach town, so it’s made up of 3 surf shops, a few souvenir shops/market salesmen, restaurants and bars. A grocery store a couple of banks and a few other buildings. You can walk thru the whole thing in about 15 minutes. If quiet and solitude is what you are looking for this is it.

Activities are surfing and water sports, obviously. You can walk (45 minutes) to Playa Carillo down the road, or take a taxi($8), it’s a big almost deserted beach that’s actually a bit nicer than Samara. Instead of a plaza, they have a big field that once was a soccer/futbol field.

Interbus (and probably Grayline) goes to and from here, as does Sansa Airlines from the dirt landing strip down the road in Playa Carillo. The ‘airport terminal’ consists of a couple of pieces of corrugated metal along the roadside.

"Relaxed Surf Spot"

Relaxed little town at the Pacific Coast, perfect place for the learn to surf.
The waves are calm and you can hire a board at the beach.

I took my change because I always wanted to try to surf on the ocean waves.... first time I fell off, second time I fell off.... third time yeaaah I took a small wave...
It was really fun, I fell I was tired got a cut in my arm but I did it...

Its a nice place to stay for a day but thats enough... the you should move on... it was low season and not very crowded a little bit borring :)

And my pants got stolen in the hostel, it was hanging to dry outside so crime is everywhere ....
