More about Villas Kalimba
The Warmth of Italy!
I can't say enough good things about this family-run place. A group of us, 13 adults and 5 kids, just spent a great week there under the super-friendly care and watchful eye of the twinkly-eyed and laid back Roberto and Mara, the owners, as well as their daughter Lara and her husband Romano, who served up a great breakfast with a smile every morning. Roberto, a master Italian chef, also cooked several memorable dinners for us, after which he plied us with Limoncello, a uniquely Italian after-dinner liqueur.
The grounds are beautiful, the individual villas spotless and comfortable, each with a hammock out front, and surrounding a cascading set of pools and gardens. There are only 5 or 6 of these, so our group had the place to ourselves, and felt certain that we had chosen the perfect and best place to stay in Samara. And it's only a couple minute's walk to the beach.
In short, we had absolutely not one complaint.
My husband and I along with another couple stayed a week at Villas Kalimba in Samara Costa Rica. We have visited Costa Rica for seven years and prefer smaller hotels. Although we have loved the Country and people there, we have found that most smaller hotels often miss something, like hot water, or comfortable beds and pillows, or air conditioning. Villas Kalimba was such a pleasant surprise. The owners are Italian, and have taken considerable care to provide all the wonderful luxuries and necessities in their villas. They are perfectly set up for two adult couples as both bedrooms are of equal size, and the two bathrooms are identical and beautiful. Each villa is situated facing gardens and a portion of the pool, but villas do not face each other. So, as you sit on your patio or in your hammock you feel like you have total privacy. It wasn't surprising that we found most people who were there, had booked for three or four weeks. They were completely booked the entire time we were there. If you are interested in staying at Villas Kalimba, book early.
Roberto, his wife, daughter, and her husband and very hospitable. They also cook a barbecue poolside a couple of times a week which should not be passed up. We loved it, and will certainly return.

The best place in Samara
Just returned home after spending 13 days in paradise. From the moment we and six of our friends arrived at the Villas Kalimba we felt at home. Roberto (the owner)was there to greet us when we arrived at ten at night and was there to say goodbye when we left at four in the morning. Facilities were excellent and the people even better. From our tour of Samara I can truly say we were in the best place in town. We felt very welcome and secure as gates were locked every night. We would definitely not hesitate to return. All previous reviews that I read on this property are entirely true....can not think of anything that could be improved on.

Best holiday ever!
From the moment we arrived with 3 other couples at 10 p.m. Jan21 to when we left at 3 a.m. Feb.03 to catch our flight home, the hosts of this wonderful place were there for us. We felt part of their family as it is Roberto and Mara and their daughter Lara, husband,Ramon and precious 8 month old Julia who treated us as such. These villas were fabulous for us as they have 2 good-sized bedrooms and 2 bathrooms and a kitchnette fully equipped. Felt very pampered and secure as it is gated. As far as Samara Beach, it has a wonderful small town atmosphere, friendly people(many who speak very good English, awesome food no matter where you chose to eat, lots of things to do and places to go if that's what you're after.
From our perspective, this vacation beat any other "all-inclusive resort" hands down and will recommend these Villas and Samara Beach to anyone who asks.

If you would like to feel pampered and very welcome you must go to the Villa Kalimba. Roberto and his family and all his staff were very caring and more then helpful with any and all requests. Each Villa was more then we expected, plenty of room and very clean. Samara Beach is a very friendly place and very safe for every one.
My husband and I and 3 other couples all had the time of our lives and we will be back!!!

Oasis of Calm
We came to Costa Rica seeking sun and sand and most of all relaxation after several stressful months back in Toronto. A Viennese friend who had discovered Samara, told us about Villas Kalimba where she had stayed five weeks last year. On the strength of her recommendation, we booked one of Kalimba's two-bedroom, two bathroom bungalows for two weeks and the experience was memorable. After the first day, it felt like home. Beautifully landscaped to ensure maximum privacy, Kalimba is about two minutes walk to a gorgeous beach. Villas Kalimba's owner, Roberto, looks like Burt Lancaster in his later years and is terribly charming. But it was his daughter Lara and her husband Romano, that we appreciated the most. Both are relaxed, thoughtful and perfect hosts. I wholeheartedly recommend Villas Kalimbas.
Villas Kallimba was great, the owners were great and the weather was great.
February 19, 2006
Four of us went to Costa Rica and stayed at the Villas Kalimba, Samara, Costa Rica. Not only was the weather fantastic, but the owners Roberto and Mara were wonderful hosts. It is because of them that we will go back again next year. When you put together the beach, weather and the Villas Kalimba in Samara, Costa Rica you can't go wrong. It is a gauranteed excellent vacation. We didn't want to go home. We will go back again next year or even again this year.
Charming owners, great service and a fantastic value!!
My mother and I stayed at Kalimba recently. For just over $100/night we had a villa with two bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, 2 televisions and a kitchen. We didn't use the kitchen as much as expected because Kalimba provides an inexpensive and hearty breakfast. Roberto, Mara, Lara, Romano and their staff do everything in their power to ensure your satisfaction and comfort. The villas were built with a beautiful attention to detail and each villa has a hammock on its patio.
I recommend Villas Kalimba with no hesitation!
Wonderful Villas Kalimba
My wife and I stayed at the Villas Kalimba for all of February 2006 and loved it. There was plenty of room for two, a good air conditioner, a comfortable king bed, and enough other creature comforts to make our long stay very pleasant.
Kalimba is managed by Roberto Carrer and his family. They are among the nicest people we've met while traveling--and we travel a lot. Their property resembles a small gated community with 24 hour security. Its location makes it accessible to everything by day but it's very quiet at night.
The weather was warm and sunny, and the beach was like a warm, salty bathtub with light surf. We ate out every night at local restaurants. Villas Kalimba is well run and located, and highly recommended.
All the reviews are right!
Villas Kalimba and its owners lived up to the expectations that we had as a result of reading the TripAdvisor reviews. We have rarely had a more relaxing vacation. I will fondly remember lying in a hammock by the pool watching birds. From that angle I saw over 15 species of birds in the garden and in the sky flying overhead. If you want a Four Seasons type of resort that feels like you are still in the United States, do not come here, but if you want a much better value in a beautiful, comfortable, interesting, convenient, and hospitable place, Villas Kalimba and Playa Samara cannot be beat.
