Cheap, Cheerful, Basic & Beautiful!

This French-run hotel had a hard act to follow since we were visiting it straight after staying in the spectacular Peace Lodge. I think it managed rather well, considering the Peace Lodge wiped out our budget and we had taken the cheapest option in Tamarindo. Arriving at Laguna del Cocodrilo late, Jonathan's initial impression of the hotel was not good, especially since the bar was closed. But Milton soon took us out disco dancing at a salsa club down the road and he perked up after that.

Our room was clean and basic with a double bed, TV, fridge and ensuite shower (which sometimes had hot water). Tastefully decorated (I sound like an estate agent!) and compact but not at all stuffy. We had Room 3 at the hotel and I was rather glad since only the ground floor garden-view rooms have double patio doors which give more light and air to the room - It's quite secluded since there is a little private patio area right outside the doors - nice for breakfast.

The best things about Laguna Del Cocodrilo were:
1) The gardens - loads of beautiful wildlife and amazing views
2) The patisserie
3) The location - On the beach but at the end of the strip so it's nice and quiet
4) The price - you'll be hard pushed to get a better deal and stay near the beach

Unique Quality: Unique qualities????

Unique qualities?... Hmmm.... Let me think.... Oh Yes! There is the crocodile who lives at the bottom of the garden.

Fantastic wildlife in beautiful tropical gardens - and none of that "manicured lawns" rubbish either! Proper mad, colourful, lizard infested bushes and massive shady palms lining a big lake with a crocodile in the middle.

Another massive bonus is the patiserrie owned and run by the same French family who have the hotel as a separate business. Pain au chocolat & perfect capucino for breakfast (my favourite!) and fantastic rustic pizza for lunch.... Mmmmmmmmm!!!!!

A Great Choice in Cocodrilo

This is a perfect place to stay for someone that doesn't want to spend too much but wants easy access to the beach, a nice, clean place to stay, and good food!

There is no pool at Cocodrilo but its only steps from the ocean (Tamarindo Beach). There are 4 hammocks, a bar, a great bakery and a pond where the hotel crocodile lives (thus the name of the hotel!) There are also plenty of racks on which to leave your surf board.

The rooms are clean, bright, big and very nicely decorated.

Unique Quality: There is a bakery that serves fabulous chocolate croissants (get them early!) and the open air restaurant that opens in the evening serves, in my opinion, the best food in Tamarindo.
