An oasis in the middle of town

Our first night the a/c crapped out. We got very little sleep and moved to another cabina the next day. The room safe in our previous cabina borke and we had to get the caretaker to cut it open with an angle grinder. Very unnerving since my camera gear and other electronics worth a couple grand were inside at the time. The new cabina didn't have hot water for the next 2 days. Not that the water is very cold from the taps. lol

we would have left at this point, but the rooms were clean, the beds were nice, the pool area was private and quiet, and the staff worked hard to rectify the problems. The rest of our stay was uneventful and very enjoyable.

Love the Hotel Pasatiempo!

It was our first trip to Costa Rica and our first destination was Hotel Pasatiempo in Tamarindo. We were greeted by Jeff in the reception and he was very accomidating and took our bags to our room and gave us the layout of the wonderfuly lushly landscaped property. The owners Ron and Janet were on vacation while we were there but Dan (the bar and restaurant manager), Alnozo and all the other staff members really made us feel like we were all part of a big happy family.

There are 2 rooms per building and they are all spread out around the pool area with each having a small porch with a hammock for lounging. Our room had a comfortable bed, good air conditioning and hot water. The shower has a small window that might allow someone to see inside but after haveing the hot water on for a minute the window fogs up and obscures anyone from seeing inside.

The food and drinks in the restaurant/bar are all very good and reasonably priced. We saw many people who were staying at other hotels come to the bar/restaurant for food and drinks. Tuesday nights the bar features local bands who play a good mixture of cover music rainging from Santana to Sublime to Arthera Franklin. It seemed like everybody in town was there that night and I estimate about 300 people were in attendance. Definately quite a party!

There are 3 friendly cats and 2 dogs who are the hotel mascots. One of the cats befriended us and we let him sleep on our bed during our last night there. He was very well behaved in our room.

My only (tiny) complaint was that the pool didn't seem to be cleaned every day and constantly had some leaves, twigs, and dead insects floating around.

Everything about staying at the Pasatiempo from start to finish was superb and I can't wait to go back!
