by bsurfing
I am thinking of moving to Tamarindo in 2009 for at least 6 months and my work require broadband/HS internet. Does anyone know what is the best internet connection available in Tamarindo? Cheers. Bruno

There are quite a few internet cafe options in Tamarindo at reasonable cost. If you are planning to install broadband at your 6 mo. residency, you have a few options. Look at http://www.costarica.com/Retirement/Cost-of-Living/Internet-Service/ for a good review.
Travel Tips for Tamarindo
Eat cheap with local food
by krisfromthevalley
Eat at the local restaurants. They are very cheap and shop at the supermarkets for food if you are on a budget. The restaurants have rice, beans, chicken, and beer all for about three American dollars. Guaro ...........and frescas...drink of choice--alcohol.
Bananas con leche- non-alcoholic.

Great Place to Watch the Sunset with a Drink
by Jase1177 about Copacabana
This place is mainly an outdoor restaurant with a nice view. There are various tables, including low lounge tables, and lounge chairs to enjoy the view in varying states of relaxation. If you are looking for a place to have a drink, snack, or dinner while the sun sets, this a good choice.
On my first evening in Tamarindo, I sat at the Copa having nachos and drinks. The nachos were pretty good, especially the natilla mixed with herbs. I first had a frozen drink that included lemon vodka sorbet, then switched to beers as time progressed.
This is very popular in the early evening, particularly because of the view, so make sure arrive early enough.
Although the food was fair, the prices seemed a little inflated compared to the average and for what you get. Nachos were good.
Horseback riding on the beach.
by CaptainDan
There are so many places that will set up a horse back riding tour for you. It cost about $40 per person for a 2 hour tour along the beach. You also have the option to ride through the forrest for a little bit trying to spot all the Howler Monkeys in the trees.
The best part about renting horses in a more underdevloped country is that they basiclly have no rules for you. The guide let us go where ever we wanted and he showed us how to run the horses at full speed along the water. Now that was an awesome experience but dang did it hurt the family jewels!
Scuba Dive the Catalina Islands
by CaptainDan
The Catalina and Bat islands are great spots for diving. The water is warm and visability is typically around 40-60 feet. I've never seen so many eels at one dive site before. They are an abundance of fish, rays, eels, and some sharks in the water. You can also see a lot of turtles and dolphins follow you as your boat goes to/from the dive sites.
