AWESOME!

Couldn't think of any complaints. Loved everything about this place. Felt like we lived in our own little house... pool was right at our door step and everything is seriously like a block away, so easy to get to everything. There's a supermarket right next door, for those late night beer runs. I would recommend to get the AC room... it comes with a TV, AWESOME AC, and a fridge... awesome safe in the room to make you feel even more safe... you have your own little porch, table and chairs, AND hammock... so nice! :) Stayed for a full week and didn't wanna leave!

Good Value -- Bad Construction

The hotel is not "on" the beach and that is clear. For us that is perfectly fine. There are other properties on the beach if that's a necessity. The hotel is a short and somewhat dusty walk to the beach, but the entire town is dusty.

The staff was really great and friendly and the other people staying at the hotel were generally pretty cool -- surfers, travelers, and people just looking to relax. The staff found great activities and worked literally for hours to find a horseback riding option on a Sunday with little notice.

I would say we ate at 6 - 7 places and the food was generally very good and sometimes great -- and there is a smoothie stand near the hotel that is wonderful and a coffee/bagel place just up the road that was a welcome treat. We did not hear of any crimes at the property, nor were we the victim of crimes. I did see someone almost lose a backpack on the beach to a pair of distract and displace dudes -- so keep an eye on your stuff, don't leave valuables around on the beach (or apparently in the car). We used the safe in the hotel room and had no issues.

There is construction right near the hotel and in lots of places in town. It is noisy and what can I say -- I live in NYC and was happy for the peace and quiet at night, and during work hours we went surfing, swimming, eating, diving, horse back riding, and window shopping. So this will annoy you if you want total quiet during the day to swing in a hammock -- if that's the case maybe somewhere else.

Anyway, if you like the beach, surfing, and a litlle authenticity in your traveling go -- there are more tourists in Tamarindo and more buslte -- but we liked the fact that there was a little action or the relative peace of Villas Macondo -- we went in the rainy season and it didn't rain till we were driving to the airport. Hope this helps -- we didn't take pictures of the property -- is quaint-kind-of spot -- welcome pool & again bring the iPod if you want to not hear the construction during the day -- or go to the beach...

Serenity not far from the beach

This small collection of beautiful villas is set back from the beach (200m - maybe a 2min walk) along a quiet road. There are about 10 small villas (two being 2-story apartments) circled around a lovely yard & pool. A quiet but accessible location.

The price was $35/night for a room that included a/c, safe, mini-fridge, private hot shower, & television. This is definitely less expensive than many places and much nicer than most..

Unique Quality: Each room has its own decent-sized porch with table & chairs and a happy hammock to lounge in for hours. I spent a lot of time hangining in it and reading peacefully.

The complex has a kitchen equiped with stove, sink, fridge, & utensils for use by all guests. I did not use it but looked in to notice that it was exceptionally clean.

The bathrooms were nice & clean with hot showers heated by solar power.

The management was very pleasant and accommodating. They provided loads of information on the area such places to go, activities, restaurants, & all kinds of needs.

Essentially, this is a beautiful, inexpensive place that has a good vibe among the guests and locations.

I will definitely want to stay here when I return to Costa Rica and highly recommend it to others.
