More about Tierra de Suenos

Completely Awesome

by TripAdvisor Member chuckiethetraveler

I am not much for reviews, but I was very happy with my stay at Tierra de Suenos.

The location is great for touring around, walking to the beach, taking a trip into town, or exploring the rainforest. We also ended up spending a bunch of time at the very chill onsite yoga facilities (there happened to be two yoga instructors staying in one of the bungalows while I was there!).

The bungalows are a highlight - we had a private room in the middle of the rainforest where we could watch animals roaming the property and experience some much needed private relaxation time. Also, everything was very clean! I was expecting more bugs and general rain-forestness but was pleasantly surprised to see the over-abundance of nature never made it inside my room.

Angie and Brendan made the stay pleasurable with great meals, helpful advice, and, during one particularly nasty night of weather, wonderful company.

If I can make it back to Costa Rica any time soon, I would definitely stay here again.

Can't get better!

Wonderful place to stay and very cool people to hangout with. The property and bugalows were beautiful and surpassed expectations. Angie and Brendan go hand in hand with the place. I felt that I had known them and been there forever. I would look forward to getting up in the morning and sitting outside to watch and listen to the birds. The beaches were just across from Tierra. There are some fantastic places to eat along the same road. If you are looking for a chill exprience, this is it! I would wholeheartedly endorse Tierra de Suenos and have told all my friends about it.

Look no further

We recently had a nine day stay at TDS and the place is absolutely amazing. From the beautiful grounds to the delicious breakfast each morning, Angie and Brendan have managed to turn this place into a slice of paradise.

Having a few places in mind and this being our first visit to CR we really didn't know what to expect. Man were we happy we decided to stay at TDS. Comparing it to many other places we came across in the area TDS was by far the best!

The property itself is just beautiful, overflowing with all kinds of flowers and wildlife. Also one of the best beaches in the area is just about a 4 minute walk away. The highlight for us was without a doubt the beautiful wood carved bungalows. Clean and comfortable, you really feel like you are in your home away from home.

Brendan and Angie were also very helpful and knowledgeable about the area, helping us arrange local tours and giving us suggestions about restaurants and the best beaches for surfing and swimming. They really made it feel like we were staying with a couple of old friends.

If you want a great place to stay at a great price TDS is definitely the way to go! We will certainly be back on our next trip to Costa Rica.

Paradisaical Accommodations

by TripAdvisor Member JohnBlaze202

I had to delve into the thesaurus to come up with an adjective that would describe Tierra de Suenos -- one that captures the essence of the place and that hasn't been so shopworn that it loses its impact.
Paradisaical is what I came up with, and it means "Of, relating to or resembling paradise." Paradise, in turn, is defined as "Heaven; a place or state of bliss."
Tierra de Suenos was an ideal place to spend a week of relaxation. The bungalows weren't just clean or ample--they were spoiling, luxurious almost. It was more elegant than my own house. That it was tucked away into a tropical rain forest added to the exoticism of the experience. Brendan and Angie, however, made what might have been an adequate or better-than-average stay into a superior one. They obviously know how to run a hostel/hotel/resort and take pains to make you feel less like a customer and more like a welcome guest.
The surrounding area is so breathtaking that it's hard to believe that it hasn't been ruined yet by thousands of college students the way Tijuana and Key West have been. For what woudl seem an out-of-the-way destination, there were a surprising number of excellent restaurants within walking distance from Tierra de Suenos, and the somewhat more cosmopolitan Puerto Viejo is only a short bicycle ride away, where there's a more upbeat nightlife (Wednesday is the big night out, apparently).
Parsing apart the accommodations from the overall experience is difficult to do because they were so symbiotic--Tierra de Suenos blends perfectly into the days spent wandering the beaches, jungle and restaurants. Overall, a superior experience.

Fantastic base for exploring

by TripAdvisor Member R0ckRidge

Others have commented so eloquently about the beauty of the property that I won't even try to compete...but I will add that Tierra de Suenos turned out to be a great location for us to explore the PV area when we could tear ourselves away from the grounds and the beach. Located far enough from the town to be quiet and tranquil, Tierra de Suenos is a short walk from three great restaurants (Selvin's, Jungle Love, Shawandha Lodge), several groceries, two beautiful beaches, and a number of attractions. For longer excursions, the proprietors will be happy to book you a tour or use one of their connections with a local guide. We took three--a guided hike in Manzanillo, snorkeling in Cahuita, and a Bri Bri cultural tour. Staying with Brendan and Angie was less like being "customers" and more like staying with cool friends who happen to own a gorgeous jungle lodge. Even Cody the dog treated us like family and followed us around! A great experience that we would definitely do again.

An Oasis...

by TripAdvisor Member Oasisseekers

We booked a last minute trip to Costa Rica in hopes of finding a lovely getaway where we could simply relax. We reviewed a good number of places to stay when we came across Tierra de Suenos and decided to book our entire stay (11 nights) with them. When we arrived, we were pleasantly surprised by the absolute beauty of the location! The property is magnificent! So beautiful! When we walked into our bungalow we were also very impressed. We stayed in the Orchid Oasis bungalow, which afforded the privacy of only having one other bungalow next to it. The towels and bedding are of excellent quality, and are very soft and lovely. The hammock on the front porch makes for a great place to relax when it's raining outside! Angie and Brendan were incredibly helpful. Any questions or requests we had for Angie and Brendan were met with an immediate response from them (ex. new towels, extra hammock, directions to restaurants). Playa Chiquita beach is just a short walk away and it is spectacular. We walked the shoreline several times between town and Punta Uva and we think Playa Chiquita is the best beach that area has to offer...and it's a couple of minutes away from your bungalow at Tierra de Suenos! Breakfasts in the morning were really good (I especially loved Brenden's spicy potatoes and his rice and beans...oh, and Angie's french toast...I could go on...). We saw (rather, heard, then saw...) the howler monkeys quite regularly, along with a sloth, an armadillo, many hummingbirds, and butterflies. The restaurants in the area are also very nice, especially Vida Sana (next door) for lunches, Selven (a bit of a walk away, but great) and Jungle Love for dinners. Typically, when traveling we end up moving around a lot. However, we ended up staying an extra night at Tierra de Suenos making it 12 nights in total, and our longest trip at just one spot yet! Overall, we were very impressed with Angie and Brendan's committment to making our vacation at Tierra de Suenos a great one!

We loved our stay at Tierra De Suenos.

Brendan and Angie were very gracious hosts, who made us feel at home the minute we walked onto the property. During our 8-night stay, we enjoyed our time chatting with them and sharing yummy homemade breakfasts, complete with local fruits. They were very knowledgeable about the area and helped us find a guide who took us bird watching one day and on a nature tour in the jungle another day.

The property was just beautiful. The bungalows were nestled into the jungle and were clean with very comfortable beds. We were surrounded by flowers and abundant wildlife, both seen and heard, and we spent a lot of time experiencing the jungle from our porch and hammock. In fact, we had a sloth outside of our bungalow for two days.

We spent the rest of our time exploring the beaches – loved Punta Uva and Manzanillo - eating at wonderful restaurants, both nearby and a short cab drive to Puerto Viejo, and riding our bikes throughout the area.

We would recommend Tierra de Suenos to anyone who wants to experience the Caribbean Coast in a natural setting, in comfort and with hosts who easily become friends.

Jungle Elegance

by TripAdvisor Member city_of_champs

I just returned from a 6 night stay at Tierra de Suenos in Playa Chiquita. This place is awesome! My boyfriend and I arrived and were totally awestruck by the property. The bungalows are so beautifully designed. The attention to detail on the bed posts and the furniture on the porch is incredible, everything was hand carved. The sink in the bathroom had palm trees painted on it!

Our bungalow was very private, there was one other bungalow near it, but I still felt like we had plenty of privacy. My botfriend's mother was staying in the bunglow next to ours, but we never had a problem.

The grounds of the property are really incredible as well. Even better than the bungalows! This property istotally in the jungle, so be prepared. If you hate wildlife and exotic plants, then you will not like this place. The mosquito nets over the beds are necessary at night, but during the day I wasn't bothered much by any bugs. The nets really gave a nice romantic feeling to the trip, so they were functional and beautiful.

The wildlife on the property is amazing. We saw a sloth climb up a tree not 5 feet from where were standing! There are several butterflies that always seemed to flutter around as you walked down the path. There was also an awesome little crab who seemed to guard the path. He would poke his claws out, say hello and then scurry back into his hole.

Angie and Brendan were excellent hosts as well. Someone else mentioned that they felt like they were visiting friends who happened to own this cool jungle lodge. That was exactly the case! They were very helpful. I had a few questions before we left for Costa Rica, and my emails were replied to in a prompt manner and the answers were very helpful. They recommended a great tour for whitewater rafting, which my boyfriend and I loved. They were happy to make recommendations for dining or the best beaches. They also let us know where to exchange travelers checks and where to find an ATM. They even took us with them to Manzanilla (Maxis bar and grill is delicious by the way) about a 30 minute drive down the road to watch the presidential election coverage on Satellite CNN with them.

We rented bikes a few different times and road around the area. I liked Puerto Viejo alot. It's a solid 20 minute bike on a bumpy road, but the senior you pass as you ride is spectacular! We passed a grove that had tons of howler monkeys. Like 30 of them, right over our heads! You also ride along the coast so you get great views of the beach and the sea. The town is pretty neat. There are some great little shops and good resturants. I really like el Durango. The prices were great, and the red snapper was fabulous! Across the street from Durango was a little stand where you could buy jamaican style beef patties and some pasteries. We liked to grab those and sit on the beach to eat.

I would recommend this lodge to anyone who wants to explore the area, enjoy wildlife, relax, have a romantic getaway or have some adventure. We were able to do all of those things, and I made two new friends in Brendan and Angie. I can't wait to come back!

Beautiful cottages, friendly owners, and great location

by TripAdvisor Member cjsk

My girlfriend and I loved our stay at Tierra de Suenos! Each cottage is clean, charming, and comfortable. The grounds are beautiful and well-maintained with lots of trees, birds, and monkeys - you really feel like you're in the jungle! Brendan and Angie are wonderful hosts. They are extremely helpful and knowledgeable, and we had lots of enjoyable conversations with them. We also loved being in Playa Chiquita due to its beautiful beaches, great restaurants, and proximity to such areas as Puerto Viejo, Punta Uva, and Manzanillo. All in all, a wonderful trip, and we definitely plan to return to Tierra de Suenos next time we are in the area!

Our House...in the Middle of the Jungle :)

by TripAdvisor Member iamslai

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at Tierra de Suenos. Our bungalow was small but was absolutely nothing to complain about. The hammock on our front porch was probably the best part about our bungalow. Angie and Brendan were great hosts. They were knowledgeable and were more than happy to help us with any questions that we had. They pretty much try to accomodate your every need (within reasonable requests). Tierra de Suenos was truly beautiful (the entire property). It's about a twenty five minute bike ride from town, but the scenery is well worth the journey, not to mention the calories that you're unknowingly burning. Oh, and Brendan cooked some sweet breakfasts!
