This is not the Costa Rica of high rise condos on the beach. Our high rise condo was a treehouse with a loft, two beds, a bathroom and a view of the jungle on 3 sides. The trip to get there is not for the faint of heart. But once you are there, you are in paradise. The ocean waves are across the street, monkeys swing in the trees outside your room, rare scarlet macaws fly around all day long, while the chef prepares all your meals. We hiked in the jungle, walked on the beach, met people from all over the world, napped in the afternoon and ate good meals.
Unique? The last 36 miles takes almost 2 hours to drive, and can only be driven during the dry season (Christmas to May). You sleep essentially outdoors, though there are traditional walled rooms as well. You wake up and see monkeys outside your room. A conch shell is blown to call you to meals.
