Lapa Rios Ecolodge: Lovely Lapa Rios

No matter how many reviews or articles you read, how many times you browse the website, how many pictures you've seen, nothing can prepare you for the actual experience of visiting Lapa Rios. The jungle of the Osa Peninsula is amazing, and to be able to enjoy the comfort of a luxury hotel, with the most amazing food, in this environment is just priceless. The staff is like family and will teach you unimaginable things about their rainforest and how the hotel takes action to protect it. I would definitely recommend this place as something to experience in your lifetime.

Large bungalows in the middle of the jungle, infinity pool, gorgeous beach, monkeys and birds just outside your deck, great varied menu, more tours and activities than you have time for! To be able to do all this in a sustainable manner is admirable.

Costa Verde: A room with a view and more!!

This is one of the most romantic and beautiful hotels we've stayed in. You feel like you're deep in the rain forest...when we looked out our balcony . White faced monkeys entertained us every morning and we listened to the howlers in the distance. The room was spacious and comfortable with a fridge and stove. We bought supplies and had breakfast on out deck each morning!! Good bar and restaurant too . The only drawback is the steep hills to our room . You have to be fit!!

This is a rental home on the southernmost tip of Costa Rica.You have to make your own fun here-its not a hotel or resort by any stretch.If you don't mind the trip to get here this is a great experience,This is what "living off the grid" is all about.

Spent a week here. Great spot to stay. Secluded on a vast plot of private property. Everything you need is on the property.

Several restaurants, beautiful pools, white sand beach, and the rooms are nice as well. Near Manuel Antonio National Park.

Fiesta Caribbean Resort: Pacific Beach

The beach at the Fiesta was made up of black volcanic sand, not the best for pure beach fun! It also sloped away quickly and the waves coming in from the Pacific made quite a roar as they came to the end of their long journey! Still, it was fun to lounge alongside the beach reading a book and just enjoying the warmth of the sun and listening to the sounds of the ocean! It was also fun to watch the Pelicans gliding skillfully along the wave crests with their wings just inches away from the water. Often they would suddenly wheel and dive into the water after fish. High overhead, fork-tailed Frigate birds soared on the ocean breezes. This photo was taken from the resort's pier, looking back onto its steeply sloping black beach with the main resort buildings in the background.

Fiesta Caribbean Resort: Danger - Swim-Up Bar !

The resort had a great selection of swimming pools. Further away from our room was the main pool area where most of the action took place. Part of the reason for this was the swim-up bar located in that section of the pool. We noticed, as the day wore on, that several of the guests had rather raw looking foreheads. The mystery was soon solved as we observed that, as the effects of the day's free drinks took hold, some people forgot to duck as they passed beneath the thatched roof over the bar area! Fortunately, I soon learned the trick and managed to get in unscathed (2nd photo)!

Fiesta Caribbean Resort: Was That an Earthquake?

Our room at the Fiesta was very nice. In addition to the main bedroom, located poolside, was a bathroom and a living room/TV room located on the hallway entrance to the room. We mostly used this just as a place to leave our luggage since we did not use the TV at all. On our first morning there (Feb. 13th), after the long trip to Arenal volcano the day before, we were laying in bed and I was propped up against the wall as we talked. Suddenly, I felt the building give a sudden jolt and that was all. Due to my habit of immediately looking at my watch whenever I see the lights dip (it usually means an electrical fault somewhere on my transmission system when I am home), I made a mental note of the time as 8:22 AM. Later in the day I found out that the San Salvador area of El Salvador, 400 miles northwest of our hotel, had been struck by a 6.6 Richter magnitude earthquake - their second one in a month. This one killed at least 274 people and injured 2700 and it was not as bad as their Jan. 13th quake. It just brought home the fact that this beautiful part of the world has to suffer through its own demons of earthquakes, volcanos and hurricanes.

Fiesta Caribbean Resort: Suntan Heaven

We were glad to be on the ground floor of this relatively laid-back establishment. It was really nice to be able to pick between a poolside dip, sun tanning on the lounge chairs or just retreating to the room without having to trudge up and down stairs! The photo shows our room entrance as seen from the swimming pool.

Fiesta Caribbean Resort: A Pool at our Door

Our room was located on the ground floor of this 3-storey resort and, just outside our door, was a great swimming pool! The transition from pool-side to the water was just a gradual slope, so there was no need to plunge in head-long. Of course, we were not slow to use the main pool either, as evidenced by Frank,Isobel and I in the second photo! We noticed that one difference of this resort, compared to others that we had stayed at in Venezuela and Cuba, was that the locals seemed to be be quite at home coming in and enjoying the facilities themselves! Their segregation between tourists and the nationals was definitely much less noticeable in Costa Rica.

Villa Lapas Eco-resort: Nice Place for a Cool Dip

Within sight of our room (in the background) was this beautiful swimming pool. Because it was never crowded, we had a great time cooling off there after our excursions in the forests surrounding the resort. Of course, it did not hurt that there was a pool-side bar serving cold Imperial beers (2nd photo)!
