surfing...

I have read Jacó is considered the surfing capital of Costa Rica and Playa Esterillos Este where I took this pic is said to be a surfers' off the beaten path relaxing spot and what about a more relaxing sort of big inner tube instead of a surfing board...? ;-) in Jacó more than one shop rents surfing boats but whatever you feel like doing on the beach, do not forget the sun cream: it was one of my very last days in Costa Rica and I succeeded in getting sun-burnt at 9.30 in the morning...

"A way of Life"
You can't think of surfing in Costa Rica without thinking of Jaco. It's a way of life..sort of a religion for its acolytes living in force with nature.
For an adrenaline rush, Jaco offers high doses of of great surf spots:
Playa Hermosa for one.
It's about 3 km long of beach and here you will find some of the strongest beach break all year round. Home of night surfing contests with flood lights..It's pretty interesting to watch. It's a great place to meet people and have fun in the sun!
To the south you will find "Fuego del SOl" (Sunfire), very storng surf for those of you who are not comfrotable in the water, so be carefullll! Certain waves form off of a rock, making the waves have a peculiar shape. Interesting to watch if you understand the mechanics of the ocean.
There are also many turtle refuges that are great to see and visit.
Keep in mind that if you get the urge to test the waters and go for surf yourself, you can find surf schools that practice off of Madrigal Street, on the south end. They will be happy to show you the ropes!
Unforutnately I do not own a digital camara yet! Photos will be up soon!
