"Condo Rental in Jaco"
We traveled to Jaco in Feb 2008 and decided this is where we wanted to purchase a vacation home. After looking in Hawaii, So California, Arizona, Mexico, Belize we tried Costa Rica. We were very impressed. The government is very stable the infrastructure good, medical facilities very good, and the locals are friendly. Food and cost of living a little less expensive than in the States and we got along pretty well with out knowing much spanish.
We made an offer on a beach front condo on our 1st visit in Feb. Closed on the sale in April and just spent another 18 days in Jaco at our new 2nd residence in July. We just love it. We like to cook and found local fish markets where fresh sword fish, Marlin and Tuna and mahi mahi are available daily for 4700 Colones /per Kilo, that equates to about $9 for 2.5lbs.
The Condo resort we purchased in is called La Paloma Blanca and it is just beautiful. 36 Condos and 4 pools on the ocean. Rates to rent these units are about the same as a hotel, $180 - $250 night depending on Season for a 1200 sq/ ft. 2bed, 2 bath unit. All the comforts of home.
"The pools"
At La Paloma Blanca they have 4 pools for 36 condos. 6 are occupied by full time residences and the remainder are in a rental pool. It located on the south end of Jaco beach.
"La Paloma Blanca - Beach front"
Here is a picture of the beach in front of the condo resort. Surf schools operate daily. Good intermediate surf, experts go south 5 miles to Hermosa beach.

Transport from San Jose to Jaco...
by jellibb
Hi!
We are planning to finish up our holiday at Jaco Beach...
Can you please suggest the best way to get there from San Jose?
Is is safe for us to drive ourselves? If so, what are the roads like? How long will the drive take us?
What about the boat option?
We aren't going till next May, but I'm just trying to get a few ideas...
Thanks Heaps!
Sel.

Driving yourself or taking the public bus (7:30, 10:30, 13:00, 15:30, 18:30, 1080 colones, C. 16 Av. 1/3 [Coca-Cola], 223-1109, or catch the Quepos bus and get off early) are both reasonable options. Either way it will take about 2.5 hours.
The first half of the paved road winds through the mountains then it straightens and flattens as you travel along the coast. It's perfectly safe and sane to drive yourself.
There are no boats between Jaco and San Jose.

Not sure I would call it sane, but the drive is relatively safe, though through a windy mountain road at slow speeds. I think it is like 70 kms, but takes 2 hours or so if that gives you an idea! I have done it countless times though, having lived in Jaco, and you get pretty adept at it.
By the way gang, what is the status of the new highway? Is it completed or getting built a la tico time?
It should make it about a 45 minute drive from what I remember.

Hello Again - Slight change of plans and of course, I would greatly appreciate any info you guys can offer...
We are staying a few days in one of the resorts near the Arenal Volcano, then we will be going to Jaco from there...
Same question again: is it safe for us to drive ourselves? If so, what are the roads like? How long will the drive take us?
Is there a safe, direct route from Arenal Volcano to Jaco, or would you suggest going back to San Jose, then going to Jaco from there?
Please help!
Sel :-)
