Bahia Gigante Condos: Over the hill

Over the hill we go, we locate the owner there and sure enough he has a duplex available.
We had to wait a few minutes while he cleaned it up a bit.
He was a very personable guy and had moved to Costa Rica from Canada.
Our duplex had a nice size livingroom/diningroom, kitchen, a bedroom with 2 full size beds, a nice bathroom with tub/shower but no hot water.

Unique Quality: We had a great view out over the bay.
There were forested grounds were we could hike and watch wildlife. Plenty of birdlife around the area. There is also a marina.

Rancho Bahia Gigante: No rooms at the Rancho

When the ferry made it across the gulf we got off the boat at Playa Naranjo. Then we drove about 9km southeast of there to Bahia Gigante.
We thought we had reservations at the Rancho Bahia Gigante but after we arrived we were told that the hotel was full with some womens group.
The manager said we could come there to eat our meals but no rooms available.
The former owner of the hotel lived over the hill, in back, and rented out a duplex there.

Hotel Cabezas: not the Grand Hotel but...

all hotels seemed overbooked but here the very friendly man at the desk said he had only a remaining double room with no bathroom for 5000 colones (about 25 US $ with the change of those dys) and the car could be parked in a locked lot for extra 1000 colones...
the room was very basic: two beds, at their ends two little tables re-painted in white (you could notice it) in style with the colour of the rest of the room, a sort of belt for hanging your clothes, a fan and NOT a speck of dirt...
it's not in the rich part of the town and going back after dinner got the impression to be followed by a guy but when reached the hotel and found the door locked, a tramp resting nearby said to simply ring to bell and after I wished the man good night with a big thank you, everything was over and maybe it was only a wrong impression...

Unique Quality: there were two bathrooms with a basic shower, not tiled, and a toilette in a few meters BUT I when I used it again after dinner, it had been cleaned again...
