Ocean on One side...National Park on the Other...

    by

Because of our mishap at La Mariposa, we had to find another room at another hotel. The staff at El Parador was wonderful. We ended up with a huge room...2 double beds, a large kitchen and family room which over looked the ocean. On one side of our cottage was the national park, and the other was the ocean...it was magnificent.

We saw tons of different kids of birds, monkeys and flowers were everywhere. The landscaping of the hotel was well kept...and the whole week was a dream.

They had plenty of pools for everyone to enjoy...and the food was pretty good. From what I remember...our room included the price of brekkie. Fresh fruit and a large buffet...it was impressive.

The food in the formal dining wasn't as good as Si Como No...but the service made up for everything. The staff were always smiling and helpful...and made our trip enjoyable.

    Rain Forest Luxury

Golf carts deliver you and your luggage to your room. Situated on 12 acres, you will see numerous types of birds, monkeys, sloths, and iguanas on and around the hotel grounds. The hotel can arrange a variety of tours and activities in the lobby. In addition, spa facilities are available for a more relaxing afternoon or special celebration. The hotel is located on the side of a hill, which means the beach is a short hike. (Approx 500 meters)

Unique Quality: An afternoon dip in the infinity pool, is a perfect way to relax after a morning of hiking. Enjoy the incredible view of rainforest and Pacific ocean, as you sip a cool cocktail at the swim up bar.

Loved our stay in M.A. Costa Rica at the Hotel Parador, excellent views, lovely large room with balcony looking out to howler monkeys and sloths in the trees !!! Pool awesome, service kind and helpful !! We would stay again, excellent time. Outstanding views from hotel and our room balcony !! Hotel is not on the beach have to take a taxi down to beach area but not far....... and not expensive. there is a small bech on hotel grounds to walk to about 10 min. walk but no chairs and alittle rocky.

Such better options

At the end of the road, the Hotel Parador has a great location, but many problems. The hotel is old and feels like an old pirate ship. Our hotel room was really outdated, smelled musty, and was not clean. There may have been nicer rooms at the hotel, but I strongly reccommend staying at a different resort if you want to pay that much for a room. The hotel has great potential and needs a makeover. The staff at the hotel was average for costa rica. Not as friendly as most of the other hotels in the area. The food in the main dining room should be avoided.

There is a nature trial on the property which was completely empty when we were there and it was a great place to see wildlife. White faced monkeys and coatis entertained us, while most of the other hotel guests fought for the remianing chaise lounges by the pool. Hotel Parador should only be booked in the nicer rooms and if you have a car, as it is at the end of a decrepid road. All in all, we have been to costa rica 5 or 6 times in the last two years and will never be back to hotel parador, but the hotel may be better for others than it was for us.

Don't Go There!

We stayed in Hotel Parador during our honeymoon in Costa Rica, after coming from Hotel Punta Islita there was no comparison....Hotel Parador was awful. The food was inedible and expensive. My husband and I had lobster and steak one night, the lobster had no flavor, like it had been frozen, the steak was very chewy. Another night I had chicken that wasn't done and the breakfast buffet has bugs in the marmalade. The hotel was pretty and our suite was beaufitul, though a very high climb to it. The staff also had some issues correctly checking us out. They were also not nearly as friendly as other resorts we stayed at. While the resort was pretty it was a little to much for us. I recommend finding another resort in the area.

Not Eco-Friendly

by TripAdvisor Member CRgringo

The most common story in the area regarding Hotel Parador is related to its expansion a few years back. They used dynamite to blow up part of a hillside. The result was hundreds of dead monkeys and other wildlife, all in the name of expansion so they could have the huge resort they now offer to tourists.

If you care anything about the eco-system of the Manuel Antonio area, do not stay in this hotel.

Stay here!!!!!!!!!!!

My husband and I just returned from our trip to Costa Rica and Hotel Parador. I have nothing but wonderful things to say about this place! From the moment we arrived in San Jose, we were overwhelmed by the friendly natives. One guy actually took our luggage to the Sansa terminal for us! (with us along for the walk of course!) We flew Sansa both ways, to and from the hotel. Both flights were amazing. The planes are in good condition, and quite a bit larger than I expected! It was truly amazing to see the entire Costa Rican landscape from the air. Quepos airport is so cute....the airstrip is paved, but is pretty much a cleared area in the middle of a palm tree field! There is a place to get water, beer, snacks, etc inside the airport, which was a nice treat! Gabriela at Hotel Parador had set us up with transfers from Quepos airport to the hotel for both legs of the trip. Definitely a plus for us!!! Upon arrival at the hotel, we were immediately greated with our welcome cocktails and ice cold towels! We were checked in promptly and led by golf cart to our junior suite. (Yes, it is a little hike to the junior suites, but SO WORTH IT!) One thing to remember, the stairs leading to the suites are made of the adobe tile, which is beautiful, but also very slippery after the rain. The food was incredible each time. We ordered room service for lunch almost every day, and aside from feeling very bad for the waiters who had to climb the stairs to our room (505) every day, we were very pleased. The private dinner in La Reina was a nice touch for our honeymoon. Smith, the bartender at the pool bar, is a riot! He was so much fun! Actually introduced us to a new drink which we now make at home quite frequently! Mario is another great bartender. The property is gorgeous, the beds comfortable, and the staff extremely friendly and helpful. We did visit Quepos once during the day to do our souvenier shopping for the family. It is a nice town, and most of the people in the stores speak good english. All of the stores we went to accepted American dollars as well as Colones. (The hotel accepts everything!) We did see Sloths, a snake, tons of Frogs and Toads, Buzzards, Monkeys, and beautiful birds at the hotel. We booked the honeymoon package and I am so glad we did. Everything was so wonderful...just talking about it makes me sad we had to leave and come back home!! We will definitely return to Hotel Parador and Costa Rica as a whole!!!!

"Private Beach"

If you take the road to Hotel Parador and stop 200 yards before the hotel there is a path to a private beach. The beach is a small bay and all the local snorkle tours stop there so why pay...just swim out. Look out for the monkeys who like to try and steal your backpack and towels. I'll load pictures soon. all locals no tourists and rarely crowded.

"Best Restaurants"

While in Quepos near Manuel Antonio National Park eat at Barba Roja. Fresh fish, cheap prices and a nice garden.
