More about Monteverde Rustic Lodge
Don't hesitate to book this hotel!
We took a chance and booked this hotel for five nights, going by unanimously positive reviews on TripAdvisor, and we could not have been happier with it.
The hotel is small, locally owned, and run by a friendly staff. It is cleanly and attractively laid out (wood furniture, huge open tiled shower, beautiful carved sconces), reasonably priced, comfortable, and clean.
Jose runs the hotel and treats his guests with great care. There is a lot to do in the area and he was so very helpful in suggesting and booking activities, without being overbearing or presumptuous.
There are a lot of lodging options to consider in the area, but you are not likely to find a place as friendly, comfortable, and helpful. Don't hesitate to book this hotel - you are guaranteed to have a positive experience here.
Charming and Delightful Rustic Lodge
My boyfriend and I spent out first two nights in Costa Rica at Rustic Lodge in Monteverde. It was a wonderful opener to the trip as our room was clean, comfortable, and spacious. Jose and his brother Marcelo own and operate this B&B, taking great pride in providing EXCELLENT customer service, which made all the difference.
The grounds were lovely and the complimentary breakfast was delicious! I highly recommend this place to anyone in search for great value and top-notch customer service.
The Rustic Lodge was charming. It was clean and quaint, The owner, Jose, and his brother were incredibly helpful. His woodwork throughout the hotel is an amazing masterpiece. Jose gave suggestions on what to do and see in town and where to eat. He has many connections with the businesses in town. He even made us tea with herbs from his garden( his grandfather's recipe). The property includes quaint little gardens. We saw more hummingbirds in this garden than anywhere else in Costa Rica combined! It was a great experience and I thoroughly enjoyed Jose and the spic-and-span rooms. Plus the breakfast was delicious!
Tea and Tranquility
As if staying near one of the most beautiful preserves in the world was not enough, I was fortunate enough to somewhat randomly stay at Rustic Lodge, and I am very thankful that I did. After a jarring ride in a cramped van from La Fortuna, my friend and I were greeted by Jose, who showed us to our room. As we passed by several awesome looking rooms, and turned the corner around towards the back of the building, I had a sinking feeling Jose had placed us in a last-minute closet...I could not be more wrong. Our room was one of three or four secluded towards the back of the property, and was comfortable and clean. Jose immediately made us feel at home, and invited us to have some tea in the dining room as soon as we had settled in. I'm not sure which Greek god handed Jose the recipe for the nectar that we then drank, but the stuff was delicious (and apparently from the garden)! Throughout our stay there, Jose remembered our affinity for The Tea, and constantly served us. He and his brother Marcelo were extremely helpful and attentive to our needs. Jose sat down with us with a map of the area and answered all our questions regarding local attractions. His help was invaluable and much appreciated. I highly recommend the Rustic Lodge and hope that, one day, he starts a side business selling The Tea so I can enjoy it back in the States.
We spent 2 nights and 3 very rainy days at the Rustic Lodge in Monteverde, Costa Rica. Jose was able to steer us to inside things to do after having his special pink tea to welcome us and warm us up. The decor is worth a visit- handmade tables, chairs and sconces that were beautiful (and made by Jose's brother). We were there with our 24 year old son and his wife so had 2 rooms. They were clean, comfortable and quiet. Directly outside our rooms was a garden with native flowers, foliage and hummingbird feeders that attracted at least 10 hummingbirds of various colors and sizes throughout the day. We saw more exotic birds in "our" garden than anywhere else! Though we weren't able to do the canopy tour on this trip we enjoyed the coffee plantation tour, the Frog Pond, the cheese factory tour, the restaurants recommended by Jose and walking in the rain at the Santa Elena Rainforest Reserve. We would definitely return here on our next trip.
The Rustic Lodge was our first hotel in Costa Rica and we were very happy with our choice. Jose was so welcoming and helpful in choosing activities in the area and arranging for transportation. The room was clean and comfortable. Most of the furniture is home-made out of trees and has a unique flavor.
We especially enjoyed the breakfast. It was different everyday with fresh fruits.
It was a great experience for our family.
Great deal, even better host
It'd be hard to find a better place to stay near Monteverde than Rustic Lodge. As the other reviews have said - the rooms are clean, the tea is good, the gardens are nice, and the breakfast is tasty. But, the thing that stood out the most was the owner, Jose. You cant ask for a better host when visiting the area. He knows everyone and can always point you in the right direction depending on your interest, plus he's just one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet. Stay here, you wont regret it.
Good experience @ Rustic Mountain Lodge
We found Rustic Mountain Lodge online, and it turned out to be exactly as promised: clean, basic rooms and an OUTSTANDING complementary breakfast each morning (local fruit, fresh eggs, toast, Costa Rican coffee, etc.). Plus, the brothers who run/own the hotel are VERY hospitable, and their location was/is super (an easy 10-minute walk into Monteverde, from a quiet residential street in Santa Elena). Of the 3 places we stayed during our one-week stay in Costa Rica, this was by far our favorite.
lives up to the reviews
Rustic lodge was a wonderful, simple, inexpensive retreat in monteverde. We booked a last minute trip to Costa Rica and were lucky enough to catch an opening via email at Rustic Lodge in between christmas and new years. Jose and his brother were incredibly friendly and helpful. We stayed with our 2 kids, 6 and 3, in a very spacious, immaculate room with great (but dim) handmade wooden lampshades and wood furniture. it comfortably fit three beds. It got chilly at night outside (fleeces, long pants), but we were fine inside. It does get pretty noisy if there is a lot of wind outside. Breakfast in the common room was yummy: eggs, pancakes, fresh fruit and coffee were welcome starts to the day. jose really is such a friendly guy. our kids were always hanging around getting rides on his shoulders and hanging out with their young nephew and watching a few spanish cartoons. internet access was available. location was good. up a 1/3 mile from the main town. parking was available. we stayed everything from fancy villas to the rustic lodge and loved this as much as our luxury digs. highly recommended. very kid friendly.
Great location and hotel for price
We read about the Rustic Lodge on TripAdvisor and then booked one night to stay there while in Monteverde. Jose had great reviews and we found that he had earned them.
Jose was very friendly and helped us book some tours while in Monteverde. He made the arrangements and also suggested a massage while we were staying there. Both my husband and I had a massage for a reasonable price and enjoyed it. We also did the ZipLine tour he recommended at Selvatura Park and it was great! We paid $45 each and had a wonderful time there! HE also recommended a couple of restaurants to us where we could get a 10% discount as his guest. We went to a restaurant atop of Woods art gallery and Mary Tierro's and both were great.
Our room was clean and the location was great, but this is not a fancy lodge by any means. The breakfast we had in the morning was great--the homemade granola and the eggs. We would recommend this hotel.
