Manuel Antonio & Jaco accomodations & car rental advice

by pporto

My friend and I will be taking a 4 day trip to Costa Rica in just two weeks (May 6-9). We are flying into San Jose, and as per the advice of many friends, and plan to rent a car and drive to Manuel Antonio. We plan to take the Old Highway route and want to know if anyone can tell us if 4WD is necessary?

We are looking into two hotels in MA, Costa Verde and Verde Mar Hotel. Has anyone stayed at Costa Verde? We are leaning towards that one, but would like to hear from people who have stayed at either place.

We are also planning on spending one day/night in Jaco and are looking into staying at Fuego del Sol. Any advice on this hotel or others in Jaco?

Does anyone know of any good night spots in MA or Jaco?

Thanks in advance!

Patty

I was just there and rented a Terios (I think) from Toyota Rents and it took us everywhere we needed. It was their least expensive 4 wheel drive and they delivered and picked up to our hotel. It was also the perfect size for some of those narrower spots you encounter. Have a great time.
