More about La Cusinga Eco Lodge
Sustainable Tourism in Action
I brought a group of 25 university students from Toronto Canada to La Cusinga Lodge. This was part of a two-week field course in applied ecology and rural sustainability. La Cusinga Lodge provided an ideal setting for studying applications of sustainable tourism and development. The trails are magnificent; the beach is spectacular (including the view from the Lodge overlooking the Bay); renewable energy use (solar and mini hydro power); sustainable forestry practices; community involvement in tourism and crafts. The food is very, very good; accommodations have breathtaking views of Ballena Marine National Park. Excellent and knowledgeable staff.
I intend to take my field course there again in May 2007
Loving La Cusinga
I am definately returning. I found the food, the view, the staff and the owner wonderful. Great guides available too. Yoga in the morning facing the ocean, how could you go wrong. And Howler Monkeys as your alarm clock. Awesome spot!.
Thanks again G.
The staff at La Cusinga are all amazing. Geinier (the General Manager) was so hospitable and took the time to explain the history of the place. The rainforests surrounding theEcolodge are all worth a visit! I saw the most amount of species including, Howler Monkeys, different species of frogs, tropical birds, just to name a few, during my hikes through these forests in comparision to the hikes I took through other Costa Rican forests . I would go back to La Cusinga in a heart beat!!! It was absolutely breath-taking. I highly reccomend this accomodation for your visit to the most beautiful place on earth!
I was a part of a university group that went to Costa Rica for a field research course. We had visited a few places over the duration of our trip but La Cusinga Lodge was by far the best. It is on a beautiful location right on a cliff over-looking the Pacific and the view is spectacular from your rooms. You get a sense of adventure when staying there because many of the rooms are group "hostile-like" and they seems to be right in the wilderness. Food and service was amazing. Everything was clean and neat at all times. A great place to visit!
A rare find
This eco-friendly lodge sits perched high on a hill overlooking the beautiful Costa Rica coastline. A short hike through a forest rewards you with a gorgeous, secluded beach. There were days when we were the only ones there! Our cottage was tastefully decorated and very comfortable. Food was excellent and staff were very friendly. We hope to return.
La Cusinga Shines Like A Jewel
True to it's avian namesake, La Cusinga lodge shines like a precious gem on the coast of the Pacific. There was not one facet of this lodge that hadn't been carefully thought out with regards to responsible, sustainable ecotourism. The result is a glowing piece of
pure (pura!) paradise that now serves as our standard for wildlife vacation expectations.
There is not enough space to describe the way the lodge takes your breath away, but the view from the rooms is a good place to start. Built on a hill overlooking the Pacific, the buildings are nestled into the surrounding vegetation, frangipani blossoms fill the bedroom with perfume at night, and the surrounding trees fill with birds coming in to roost as the sun sets on the ocean.
The materials of the beautifully constructed cabins and furniture are made from trees planted on the propery. The bathrooms have incorporated shells, pebbles, and gravel into their surfaces in a way that combines a wonderful visual appeal with soothing textural quality. The fact that it harmonizes beautifully with the surroundings is, I'm sure, no happy accident.
Our hosts, Allan and Auria were the model of hospitality. They quickly got a sense of what we were after in a vacation, and exceeded
our expectations every day. The meals were among the most varied and delicious I've had in Costa Rica, and the staff truly delighted in preparing wonderful food. The place was so fantastic that we altered our travel plans to spend more time there! We will return as soon as possible to La Cusinga.
Sincerely, Antony John
Perfection in Paradise
My boyfriend, adult son and I stayed seven nights in this magical place. The views, the slow pace and the access to a variety of activities with nature make it a very special lodge. Wildlife abounds. We enjoyed monkeys, toucans, whales, parrots, and dozens more beautiful animals. The architecture is in sync with the surroundings; rustic and comfortable. This is upscale lodging in deep nature. It's not for those who need AC, cocktails in a pool and room service. The folks who own La Cusinga are dedicated environmentalists; their passion is delightful! We plan to return.
La Cusinga is truly a paradise!
A stay at La Cusinga is truly a great experience....an absolute must-see. We happened upon La Cusinga in 2004 for the first time. We were going to stay one night and then be on our way to explore the rest of Costa Rica. We just couldn't leave. It is so beautiful, peaceful, relaxing, romantic, friendly and exciting all in one. You wake up to the sounds of the howler monkeys and watch the toucans in the trees outside your windows. Every day is a great experience, whether you stay at the lodge or go for day trips to surf, white water raft, explore the mangroves, or the surrounding towns, etc. There are so many things to do and the staff at La Cusinga are very helpful in pointing you in the right direction. The rooms are beautiful and very, very private. The food is spectacular. Geinier and the whole family at La Cusinga have become very special to us. La Cusinga is definitely our favorite vacation destination and we will be going back for years.
We Stayed for just a few days, but can't wait to get back. What a great time we had. We will be going back next year & plan to stay at La Cusinga for a week. A beautiful laid back relaxing time.
a lodge set in beauty
We loved La Cusinga. The setting is spectacular, the buildings made with beautiful woodwork, our cabana was spacious even grand, with style, very private . We had a neat little sitting place, very private, looking over the Pacific. The food was good. The owner has a passion for the place, and for the environment. Go there!
