HOTEL ARANJUEZ
Calle 19, Avs. 11 & 13, 200 m. norte
200 m. oeste y 25 m. sur de la Iglesia Sta. Teresita
Downtown San Jose
SINGLE: USD $18 per night with shared bath, USD $24 per night with private bath
DOUBLE: USD $21 per night with shared bath, USD $30 per night with private bath A GOOD MAP OF SAN JOSE IS AVAILABLE AT THIS HOTEL! This may seem like a strange criterion for a hotel, but for some reason I was unable to buy a good, detailed street map of San Jose anywhere else. Also, the reverse side of the hotel's San Jose map has a good map of all of Costa Rica.
Excellent service!
by kristjen about Hotel Aranjuez
Hotel Aranjuez is a virtual oasis in the urban scramble of San Jose. Once able to navigate around the city, one finds that Aranjuez is situated in a central and safe neighborhood. The staff is extremely helpful and knowledgeable about the city and tourist attractions. The breakfast is awesome! One of the best experiences of San Jose is having breakfast in the backyard of the hotel. Hummingbirds and mango trees provide a superb ambience. You can also expect to meet people from all over the world, swapping stories and drinking delicious, complimentary coffee round-the-clock. Aranjuez also provides internet service for those yearning for a little web action.
Lovely hotel in San José
by iwys about Hotel Aranjuez
The Hotel Aranjuez is a in terms of overall value for money one of the best in Central America. It has beautiful decor, lush tropical gardens, friendly service, some charming rooms and a wonderful buffet breakfast. The quality and price of the rooms does vary, however. Try to get Room 23. It's the best. This hotel is nearly always fully booked, so make a reservation well in advance.
A standard single, with shared bathroom, costs just $23. Room 23, which is a superior double, costs $47 per night, including a superb breakfast.

Best Hotel in Costa Rica

I stayed at the Hotel Aranjuez for 1 week and enjoyed the best service available. The other good thing is that it is close to downtown. The staff are very friendly and accomodating and the breakfast is awesome. I Really had a great time at this hotel. I recommend this to anyone who enjoys a comfortable environment at a very affordable price.
Great Value for the Rate!

My partner and I stayed twice in Hotel Aranjuez, 2 nights in a superior room and one night in a standard room with private bath.
We were absolutely satisfied with the superior room, but the standard room was not that great as it has only one window, opening to a narrow common area. The bed was making a lot of noise and our neighbours were only one wooden door apart from us, so we could hear their slightest noises!
Here are some positive and negative points about Hotel Aranjuez:
Positive:
1. Great Breakfast in a lovely garden
2. Exotic at the same time homey atmosphere, interesting architecture
3. Free use of computer and Internet access and free wireless Internet
4. Quiet area
5. Free Parking
6. (Almost) clean rooms, bed sheets and towels
7. TV with English channels in the rooms
8. English speaking staff
9. Absolutely reasonable price
Negative:
1. Worn out and low quality bed sheets
2. Standard room (See above)
If I go to San Jose again, I will stay at Hotel Aranjuez but only in it's superior rooms.

Great value for the price

We stayed at Hotel Aranjuez for one night only on our way to Playa Zancudo. It has a unique architecture (looks like separate buildings bridged together) and a nice garden. Breakfast was hearty and the hotel staff was responsive and kind. Each room is unique in style and size so you may want to ask for a well-lit and spacey one while booking . WiFi and Internet-connected computers are available and free.
It is conveniently located in walking distance to the Central Avenue however the neighborhood did not feel safe so I would not recommend wandering around after dark. The only problem we had was that due to wafer-thin walls, we could hear everything that was going on in the surrounding rooms and we could not go to sleep before they all did. Other than that, this hotel offers a comfortable stay at a very reasonable cost. Definitely recommended for budget travellers.
Lovely, quaint hotel

We stayed at this lovely little hotel just a few days ago. It is adorable inside, and the front desk staff are very helpful.
It has great common areas, and the pictures on the web site really don't do it justice. Our room was cuter than we thought it would be.
Breakfast is to die for. Don't miss the breakfast buffet. It is amazing and you eat in a cute little courtyard.
The only drawbacks are the noise and the area. The walls are a bit thin so you hear doors slamming if you have noisy neighbors, and while the area isn't great, it isn't terrible either. If you want to go downtown, the cab ride is less than $5 away.
Pleasant, Quaint, Great Value

Our stay was very pleasant. It is very basic though, which is reflected in the price, but all our needs were met, and the ambiance made up for anything that may have been lacking (it seems to be a series of old houses connected with breezeways and gardens on a very intimate and small scale level). Would stay here again.

Not to be missed?
by melibelly83
After a ton of planning I am leaving to Costa Rica next Friday...here are the places I am visiting and staying...any last minute advice for hikes/restaurants/tours not to be missed? We really want to experience culture and nature...
I am traveling by private shuttle from place to place.
Here is the plan:
Arrive San Jose August 9th- 12noon
Stay at Hotel aranjuez in San Jose for one night
Leave August 10-travel to Cahuita
Stay 3 nights in Alby Lodge August 10-13
Travel to Tortuguero August 13
Stay 4 nights in Tortuguero August 13-17
Travel to Ciudad Quesada/San Carlos August 17
Stay 2 nights in Termales del Bosque (relax in hotsprings)
Travel to Monteverde/Santa Elena August 19th
Stay 4 nights in Arco Iris August 19-23
August 23 wake up early and drive to airport- flight leaves 3pm- is it crazy that we are driving from monteverde the same day our plane leaves?

Exellent Plans.Yes it'll be tight your last day but you'll have figured out "Tico Time" by then and know what to expect from your driver.Call your airline the day before you go home and comfirm your flight!
Last minute advise? Buy boots? When you go to Monteverde they only let so many people into the park at one time.Take the hike at Sante Elena preserve where the zip lines are early and first before the zipliners from the city are bussed in.It's quiet and the bridges over the valleys give a great view.

Try to get Room 23 at Hotel Aranjuez. It's lovely. You can walk to the Jade Museum from the hotel, which is worth a visit. Restaurante Criollita opposite the museum is a great place for lunch.
