Comfortable Stay Near the Airport
We stayed at El Rodeo our first and last nights in Costa Rica. The hotel is conveniently located near the airport and offers comfortable amenities. The property is actually quite nice and elegant. I'm usually not a fan of staying near airports, because there isn't much to do in the area, but at least the room was comfortable and they offered plenty of international channels for entertainment (including CNN International). So with that, I would recommend this hotel as a good place to stay for early flight departures and late arrivals -- which was the case for us.
Warning: Make sure you have snacks and water with you. We arrived at the San Jose airport around 10 p.m. and we checked into our hotel around 11 p.m. We were so thirsty and starving - but, because the hotel does not offer food service, they could not sell us anything to eat or drink.
A stay at this hotel usually includes breakfast, which is served at a little independent cafe across the courtyard.

Suburban San Jose
This hotel is in the western suburb of Santa Ana. It's a little out of the way but in a very quiet location. Cab fare into town is $10-15 and takes about 20 minutes.

Location is everything!
El Rodeo is the best place to stay when you have a couple of nights in San Jose. Just minutes away from the International Airport, El Rodeo has a country like atmosphere, nice landscaping, the biggest rooms ever, and great food. Breakfast is included in the rate, plus there is an amazing steakhouse on property where you can get lunch or dinner. The environment truly feels like being at home, not at a hotel.
Unique Quality: Really ample guestrooms and bathrooms, tennis court, pool, free wireless throughtout the facilities, 2 minutes away from several shopping malls, bars, restaurants, banks, etc.

Great place near the Airport in San Jose
El Rodeo is a great place to stay when first arriving to Costa Rica. We got there late and just took a 10 minute taxi ride. The hotel has a great steak house (I think one of the oldest in the country) and really friendly staff. The rooms are big and most have nice wooden floors. Nice gardens. It really makes you feel you are in Costa Rica.
Unique Quality: Great wooden deck where breafast is served. The junior suites have great jacuzzi tubs.
