I arrived at Hotel De Oro on December 28, 2008 at lunch with 3 other friends. We decided to have lunch at the very nice restaurant. Three of us ordered salads with avocado, etc. Two of my friends were served the right ingredients in their salad - avocado was omitted from mine. Once we asked the waiter why the ingredient was missing from my salad -- he went off and brought couple of slices of avocado and fixed the omission. I thought well every one makes a mistake and let it ride. In the evening I treated my friends to dinner at Hotel de Oro restaurant in San Jose. Again I ordered arugula salad from Menu and got totally different salad. When we approached the waiter and told him that the salad served was not what was ordered. He took away the salad. After few minutes he came back and said that there was arugula in the salad and pointed to one leaf on the plate claiming that the mistake was ours as the menu stated salad with arugula and not just arugula salad. However, would not bring the menu back to the table. I am of Asian Origin and I was with White American friends. Both times the mistake was with my order. It ruined the stay for me at Hotel de Oro - I was paying the same amount of money but getting second rate service. I would not recommend the hotel to any one. We have had a wonderful time in Costa Rica every where we had gone and this was the only mishap - kind of bad taste totally at the end.
The accommodation was great, facilities very pleasing including the pool. Rooms were great too -- however, the dinning experience has left bad taste in our mouths.
