Accommodating and Convenient
In 1997, when we arrived, before departure and between trips we stayed at the Hampton Inn across from the airport for about $71/night. You can make a reservation with their 1-800 HAMPTON number, or call the hotel directly. My travel agent wanted us to stay somewhere that had more 'Costa Rican' atmosphere, but this was what we needed for transitions.
The girls on the desk were amazing, and very helpful.
We left our extra cash and passports in the hotel safe deposit box and stored half our luggage when we went off on trips for no extra cost.
Unique Quality: There was a pool (maximum depth 4 or 5 feet), a free shuttle to the airport, a free shuttle to local restaurants, and free breakfast. There were also fast food places (McDonalds, Pizza Hut) that would deliver. They had free local calls which was good so we could check on our tour reservations and flight times. On the last day before we flew out, we took the free trip to a jade place and bought some gifts.

My mother suggested this hotel for the last night because it is close to the airport. The hotel worked very well for us. It has a pool, TV, wireless internet and is just five minutes away from the International Airport and one block away from most car rental and return centers.
Unique Quality: They have 24 hour shuttle service to the San José airport, and they have a free hot breakfast. International calls are complimentary. For dinner, we actually got McDonalds delivered.

Very good stay, excellent location when your flight arrives late or departs early in the morning. Clean Rooms, huge breakfast, free wi-fi connection, swimming pool.
