Santa Ana & Escazú
by besbel
Santa Ana is the area where I was lodged during my trip. It was green all around! Next to my hotel (the Comfort Inn) there was a Pizza Hut and a Rostipollos (where I used to go all nights), and a free shuttle that used to take us in 3-5 minutes to Multiplaza Mall, in Escazú, next to Centro Empresarial Forum. Over there you could find anything for entertaining: cinemas, shops, restaurants, grocery stores ,etc.
Santa Ana is located near 30 minutes from downtown San José (by bus) or 15 by taxi (around 2500-3000 colones per ride) I miss the Rostipollos! :) Not only trying their Central American specialities, but also chatting with my bunch of friends around the table. Also miss the Multiplaza's cinema, where I came to see "The Crime of Father Amaro" with some friends.
Zip line -gliding on steel cables from tree top .
by sfphototraveller
I also took a zip line tour. They have many One of the well known one is Skytrek.com
they have the tallest, fastest zip line so far.
Your strapped in and glide on steel cables from one side to the other side.
The cables are about tree height from 50 yards or more.
Lots of fun. Most Hotels offer a couple different ones.

This train station was built by the Costa Rican government to connect San Jose to the towns of Caldera , Puntarenas and their harbors. Although not in regular service the line has recently been reopened for regular tours organized by the Tico Train Tour Corp. The train uses 1940 coaches to travel through villages offering views of jungle scenery.

Comfortable tourist bus
by mim95
There are two comapnies that offer scheduled van services to tourists - Greyline and Interbus. They are at least 20 times more expansive than public transportation, but has air conditioning and takes you door-to-door. Depending on how far you are travelling, the price ranges from US$5 to US$30. There are also private van service if you want to travel at a different time from the schedule - for over US$100!
Good daily special
by easterntrekker about Altimira
Alot of restaurants have a " plate of the day" . It usually includes soup , dinner, and dessert . The one at Altimira is really good and its in at dinnertime too ( not just lunch) . Really friendly wait staff and good location right on Central Ave...the pedestrian only area. The grilled fish was really nice .
