SAN JUAN AND LUGGAGE
by maizie58
Hi everyone. I am getting off a cruise ship at 6:00 am.and our flight leaves at 4:00 p.m. so time to see a little of old san juan since charter will not allow us to stay an xtra day or two. BUT WHAT DO WE DO WITH OUR LUGGAGE. I really want to see some of san juan but with the luggage am stiffled.
Any suggestions??Thanks a lot.

You may have more responses by posting the question at a cruise specific discussion board, like cruisecritic.com. In fact, they have a section dedicated to Caribbean ports and the answer to your question may be already posted. I don't know if they have arrangements for keeping your luggage for a while there at the cruise terminal or not- I've always went straight to the airport.

Are you flying out of San Jose, Costa Rica?
If so, it is 3 hours from the port in Limon, so you may be able to leave your luggage with your transport company. If you are taking a small plane from Limon to San Jose, it takes an hour. I would suggest you rent a room in a hostel for the day to leave your luggage and rest (I've done this in Peru and even had time for a short nap before my flight for $10 dollars). There are lots of them very cheap (10 or 15 dollars). You won't have but about 2 hours in San Jose since you have to be at the airport 2 hours ahead of international flights.
You didn't mean San Juan, Puerto Rico, did you?
Travel Tips for San José
ATM's
by penumbra
Lining up to access an ATM just doesn’t appeal. Fortunately, there is a cluster of six bank machines in a small shopping mall (Pasaje Plazavenida) at the extreme east end of the Avenida Central pedestrian mall at Calle 9. The downside is that there is a $5 charge per transaction. The upside is that there is no waiting, a security guard present, and money available in either colons or US dollars. The mall, and access to the machines, is only open during normal business hours 9am-6pm.

by bonmse
It's not necessary to tip at restaurants or other places since your bill includes a service fee. Also, Ticos greet each other with the expression 'Pura Vida!', (i.e. pure life)....
Shopping:
some of the (inexpensive) items I purchased on this trip included
Cafe Rey (2 500gms bags), Ron Centenario, Guaro Cacique, Tica Doll, Wooden box for jewelry
Church of Santa Teresita
by penumbra
Built in the 1930’s the roof is adorned by a figure of Santa Teresita. This church turned out to be an excellent landmark for my walking adventures. To the west the streets are grid-like and easy to navigate; to the west, not so much.

Busses in Costa Rica
by Dutch1980
All busses come to San Jose, from San Jose you can travel to everwhere from there...
Just take the bus, you need to buy the tickets at the bus stations.
Watch your belongings in the busses, keep tour eye on it.
There are a lot of busstations everyone for an other direction... so make sure you are at the good station. check the lonely planet or an other travelguide
The busses are good and a nice way to travel, busses can get crowded so buying a ticket guaranteeds a chair
Ice cream!
by Tom_In_Madison about Pops
Supposedly the best ice cream in the city, according to a tour guide I overheard. Many locations throughout the city, including one right across from the pigeon-filled plaza. It’s good, not the best ice cream I’ve had though. Some great flavors like banana, mango and pineapple-orange. Also shakes and sundaes and such. One scoop cono, about $1.50.
