Banco Central de Costa Rica – National Bank Bldg.
by penumbra
One of the taller and more modern buildings in San Jose, the National Bank building sits on the site from which the town of San Jose was born. Surrounded by immaculate gardens and trees, there are also sculptures to admire as you pass by. By the western wall of the bank there is a bronze sculpture of Costa Rica farming people.
Address: Avenidas Central-1 - Calles 2-4
Laundry

Of course you should never take more luggage than you’re willing to carry up a flight of stairs. This means that for longer trips you’re going to need to freshen your clothes at a laundromat. One convenient laundry is on Aveninda Central in the lower level of a shopping mall beside the Gran Hotel between Calle 1 & 3. The laundry, CyberCafe Las Arcades, is primarily an internet surfing store with four washer and four dryers in the back. c1200 / Wash, c800 / Dry (45 minutes) 7am – 9pm, closed Sunday.

You don’t have to go into the country to experience a butterfly garden, there’s one located centrally in San Jose. Located across the river from the zoo, you’ll have to swing around to the El Pueblo shopping centre and come in from the north. The garden consists of small waterfalls surrounded by orchids and heliconias with live butterflies and hummingbirds. The entire area is covered by a net ensuring that the butterflies will be there when you come to visit. Open 9 am-4 pm (except Monday). Medium admission.
Address: Across from El Pueblo towards downtown across from the zoo.
Hep! Taxi!
by BEETLE_VERTE
At one point or the other, you'll end up needing a taxi. Even more so if you're travelling by bus like we were.
They are reputate cheap, we found them just a little above cheap. A ride from the Bus stop to our hotel, which must be less than 2km, cost us 2 to 5$. From San Jose to Alejuela (the national airport is in Alajuela), it's 20$. Our 2km ride in the mountain between our hotel in Manuel Antonio and Quepos docks cost around 2 and 4$.
So it's not all that expensive, but not really cheap either. And as you can see, there's room for bargaining!
We were also suprise to find them in top shape and, mostly in the San Jose area, very luxurious. Always use the official red taxi.
We were also proposed day-trip. We had a designated driver all day when visiting the Poas volcano and the area. We estimated that just the trip to and from the volcano would have cost a little more than what he charged us for the entire day. Ask around!
Mmmm, Mexican
by Kindra about Garibaldi's
This is a small, simple little Mexican restaurant on the main street in San Pedro. Service and food preparation is very quick and prices are reasonable. Try the Sopa Azteca, a tomato based tortilla soup with avocado and cheese, or try the Enchilados or the Burrito Chingon- a GIANT burrito with every meat imaginable inside.
