Our first nights in San Jose
We stayed our first two nights at the Hotel Rincon. I found out about it via an internet search and guidebook. It is only a couple of blocks from the Hotel Dunn Inn. The staff was extremely helpful and we had a nice conversation with the young guy that was working there. The breakfast is okay, nothing to get excited about. They offer a few drinks in the evening, but don't have much of a selection. The food and drinks were probably the least impressive part of staying there. People did not tend to sit around and socialize at this establishment. It was more of a place to drop of your stuff and hit the streets. It is in an area that I would not feel safe walking around in at night. Our only problem with this hotel was that they charged my credit card twice for our two nights stay. It took a couple of months to get it all straightened out. I would not have worried about that too much except that the hotel was very slow to acknowledge and/or reply to my repeated attempts to settle the problem without involving the credit card company - which I ultimately did and got results. The hotel did hook us up with an all day tour of a local coffee plantation, waterfalls and volcano. I was skeptical about going on a guided tour, but it turned out to be a very pleasant experience. The tour guide was great, and the other people on the tour were very pleasant to spend a day with.
