Bakeries
The Costa Ricans do bakeries right. No two are alike and the pastries are always fresh and tasty. Let’s face it, walking around downtown San Jose is hungry work. My favorite bakery is Samuelito along Avenida Central between Calle 1 and 3.

I'm trying to figure out if this is the hotel I stayed at in the late 90's....Did this hotel use to have a real toucan bird in the lobby back in like 1997 or 1998?
Sorry, I do not remember a Toucan being there, but I was there before you were, but the hotel has been there since the 70s under several different names. Here is their site with a photo gallery. Perhaps you can recogize anything from that, but the whole complex is quite different than it used to be.

don't worry if you arrive at the airport, you are immediately sold the necessary paper for the departure tax (included in the paying of the paper itself) and you hear a warning saying you don't have to buy it out of the airport but at a certain desk, it's valid anyway... I have thought it can simply be a question of commercial competition or of not respected monopoly...???
Grecia is situated in an agricultural area, where mainly sugar cane and pineapple are grown.
Grecia was once voted the cleanest little town in Latin America.
It's red town centre church is constructed from metal.
Here, we have Rob (with Mark right beside him) walking up to the live band and helping himself to the microphone. Not knowing the words to the Spanish language song, he improvised with "Hey baby! Double Team! Lick it clean!" Look at how every eye in the room is on him. Priceless picture!
You too, can have this much fun at the Key Largo in San Jose! Dress for the weather.
I had almost forgotten how Costa Rican cuisine has almost but gotten rid of salt (which usually overrides the actual flavor of food) and has replaced its flavor with other more interesting, taste-enhancing spices like celery, cilantro, pepper, lemon, etc. In La Princesa Marina (La Sabana o Moravia, etc) seafood is given this treatment, the result is delicious dishes where the natural flavor of fish, shrimp even tomatoes is "accompanied" and "enhanced" by the flavor of the spices used. I returned twice to this restaurant. I tried Spaghetti a la marinera, ceviche (tico-style not Peruvian) and chuchecas. For desert try a cup of coffee with a small square of Tres-Leches cake.
