Love the Little Children
by Stephen-KarenConn
If the number of children we saw in San Jose is any indication, the population of Costa Rica must be growing at a healthy clip.
A few of the children we encountered on the streets of San Jose approached us with hands extending asking for $1.00 in return for letting us take their photograph. I'll admit that I've paid a kid (and a few adults) a dollar to take their picture a few times in past travels, but this time I didn't. I've got mixed feelings about the practice. No doubt the person receiving the dollar can use it, but I question what kid of work ethic this is teaching them - and especially the children.
The photo taken here was gratis - and from a little distance away. We saw more than one group of uniformed school children, all wearing black and white freshly laundered uniforms, and bright smiles. Those seen here are waving at our bus as we drive through the streets of San Jose.
San Pedro neighborhood

It’s about a 30 minute walk here(beware of the big roundabout), or a short cab ride. There’s the university and some shopping and it’s like being in another San Jose, but more modern. The main street leading to the University has many shops and things, most directed towards students, including some cheap good food.
Church of La Soledad
by penumbra
This church dates to 1909 and has stained glass windows shipped from Switzerland. Statuettes adorn the niches of both matching towers. The bells and organ date from the early 1900’s.

To La Fortuna from San José
by Pieter11
When you are travelling to the north from San José, you will almost always have to take a bus to the the city Ciudad Quesada (also known as San Carlos) first. From here busses depart to all parts of the area like the bordertown Los Chiles and the touristtown La Fortuna. Busses to Ciudad Quesada run very often from the Altantico Norte busstation (every 60 minutes).
This trip takes about 2,5 hours and costs about 4 dollars. You arrive at the central busstation of Ciudad Quesada, just outside town. When you want to stay here you'd best take a taxi to the centre, otherwise; change busses here to any direction.
Another great restaurant in...

Another great restaurant in San Jose, is Machu Picchu, Peruvian Restaurant. When I was there, it was pretty crowded, and it took quite a long time to get a table.
A good Peruvian Restaurant in the center of San Jose. 'Aji de Gallina', 'Tamalitos', excellent 'Pisco Sours'
