savegrehotel

My husband recently made reservations at this hotel. I have no idea where it is or anything about the place. Can someone give me some information? How far is it from San Jose and is it anywhere near a beach?

Why did you go make reservations at a hotel you know nothing about?

That's a nice area-But you're up in the mountains and nowhere near the beach. You'll see a Quetzal for sure....and you'll be able to tell your friends you drove the "highway of death".....It's not that bad ...really -Pura Vida

Travel Tips for San José

Churros

by mim95

Churro is a fried dough with fillings, a type of snack on the streets of Costa Rica. It somewhat resembles a donut, except that it shapes like a stick. You can find churro stands along Avenida Central. It costs about US$0.35 for one.

San Jose's parks are improving all the time

by TempNomad

There are several recently renovated parks throughout the city. This one is by the court house, a short walk from the Jade Museum and the National Museum. It has lovely benches, a frog pond, lots of trees, and many buses stop near-by.

Cafe Brit

by Suzanne123

This company sells Chocolate covered coffee beans. I found mine at a Pali supermarket, but they are also sold at the airport's gift shop. They offer free samples at the airport, but you pay $1.00 more per bag. Excellent quality of chocolate. Enjoy!!!

Excellent Food

by dlparker about Cafe Mundo

this was the best restaurant we went to in San Jose.
We ended up eating here twice.
Its in a weird spot so you need to take a taxi for sure to get there.
On busy nights it can be a wait to get a taxi back to your hotel is the only drawback.
They have a great menu and the place is in an old mansion looking building.
You cant really go wrong here.

craft (artisan) market

by arasnosliw

The craft market is full of vendors selling anything from earrings to hammocks. Most of the stuff they sell here caters to tourists. These are souvenir-type items. The types of things I buy for others because they want them, but the type of stuff I hate to buy for myself because I find a lot of it tacky. Jewelry, clothing, pottery, woodcarvings, you name it. Be wary that the prices they charge here are a little exorbitant, but would you expect them to do otherwise? They actually put price tags on their items expecting tourists to pay those prices, and many usually do. However, you can bargain with them and they will drastically reduce the costs, especially if you tell them you know you can get it for a lot cheaper elsewhere. I don’t have fantastic bargaining skills, but I got by just fine. I didn’t really have time to run around the city to find cheaper prices, and with this market at such a central location (along Avenida Central), it’s super convenient. I'll be honest - it's rather difficult to find these souvenier things around the country, so you may just end up here.
