More about Casa de las Tias

A Great Place

by TripAdvisor Member RosaChicago

I have stayed at Casa de las Tías every time I travel to Costa Rica. This bed and breakfast is located in a secluded area, surrounded by trees and a beautiful garden. The hospitality and service is exceptional. Each room is uniquely decorated and has its own private bathroom. Guests enjoy an outdoor breakfast served in the private garden. I love to go back to the peace and tranquility of the house. It just feels like home. The location is fantastic, just a few blocks from fine restaurants and shops and a few minutes from San Jose.

Overall I would say this is probably the best bed and breakfast have ever stayed in.

A Delightful Inn!

by TripAdvisor Member PMBIndiana

The Casa de las Tias created a very relaxing, enjoyable experience for us while we were in Costa Rica. Pilar and Xavier were the most gracious of hosts, often going "above and beyond" to make our stay comfortable. We can't say enough about the quality of this delightful inn -- the setting is beautiful and relaxing, the accommodations are superb and breakfast on the patio was lovely. Casa de las Tias will definitely be our choice for a home-away-from-home on our next visit to Costa Rica.

Cozy B&B just outside San Jose

by TripAdvisor Member kmo220

We stayed at Casa de las Tias our first night and last night in Costa Rica. We mainly stayed there because we needed to be near the airport and did not hear very good things about San Jose. On the day we arrived, they sent a taxi to the airport to pick us up and take us to the B&B. The driver was friendly, spoke English well and gave us info about Escazu. The B&B is located just off of a main road in San Rafael de Escazu.

The house itself and the garden are both beautiful. Xavier and Pilar are wonderful people. The rooms and house are very clean and since it is off the main road it is quiet at night. Xavier and Pilar were available to answer any questions about getting around town, restaurants or points of interest in and around San Jose. It is pretty informal. While we didn't have any trouble finding them when we needed them, there is no office or reception desk. The breakfast was delicious and eating outside in their garden is the perfect way to wake up.

It is very close to restaurants (a block from Cerutti - a great Italian restaurant), shopping and the airport in Pavas (Nature Air and Sansa) if you are flying domestically. However, many of the cab drivers were not familiar with the hotel. If you do not speak Spanish or if you are not comfortable traveling internationally, it is not as easy to go out as it would be at a large chain hotel. That said, Xavier frequently assists in making arrangements for a taxi or reserving a rental car. It is more of an issue if you are out shopping or dining and need to get back.

Overall, we enjoyed our stay and would definitely stay there again. Even though it's just 20 minutes from the capital city, Casa embodies the local charm of the Costa Rican country side. We enjoyed that over a large chain hotel that feels exactly the same from city to city and country to country.

Lovely B&B in all respects

by TripAdvisor Member timandrobin

Pilar and Xavier truly went out of their way to make our brief stay comfortable and went far beyond the call of duty to help us with a problem with our rental car. The house and gardens were beautiful and breakfast was delicious. Casa de las Tias makes an excellent base site for exploring San Jose and surrounding communities by public transportation. We look forward to staying there again on future trips.

Comfortable, quiet, safe and friendly

by TripAdvisor Member junglemancalifornia

I've stayed at many places in Costa Rica and Casa De las Tias is among the best if you are looking for a homestyle place to stay. It was comfortable, clean, safe and quiet. Breakfast was delicious and Xavier and Pilar are great hosts. I give it two thumbs up and five stars.

Experiencing the paradice

by TripAdvisor Member Paradice2008

This bed and breakfast hotel is located in a seclusive, quiet area in Escazu near San Jose, CR. It is surrounded by beautiful palm trees and a gorgeous flower garden. Waking up in the morning listening to the singing of tropical birds is such a rare and pleasant experience. Having breakfasts under the palm trees in the garden makes you feel bright and fresh throughout the day. The breakfasts are the most delicious and healthy we have had in many years. The hosts are extremely courteous and very helpful to our tour arrangements.

The bed room we stayed in is lined with quality hardwood floor, ceiling, and panels. There are plenty of closet spaces like you normally have at home. The common living room is very cozy and artfully decorated. The bath room is well arranged, extremely clean, and full of crafmanship.

We will stay at Casa de las Tias again, next time when we visit San Hose, CR.

Very accomodating owners

by TripAdvisor Member wenderfuls

The owners Pilar and Xavier were incredibly kind. We were supposed to arrive at the bed and breakfast around 5 p.m., but delayed flights meant we didn't arrive until 12:30 a.m. Pilar was considerate enough to wait up for us and introduce our room. The next morning, even though we had to leave early, and even though I'm sure our late arrival had disturbed his sleep, Xavier had a simple breakfast laid out for us, and we were able to chat a bit about our anticipated travel plans.

The property itself was quite pretty, I regret not being able to spend more time sitting on the porch hearing the birds sing. They have obviously put a fair bit of time into the potted plants.

We would stay there again without hestitation.

Love the setting

by TripAdvisor Member PeaSweet

This was the second time that we stayed at this lovely little bed and breakfast inn and we were again very impressed by it. The setting is lovely and tranquil and drinking a beer on the veranda is amongst my favorite things. The breakfast is fantastic, and both, Xavier and Pilar, are the most delightful and caring hosts.

Peacefull place in Escazu

by TripAdvisor Member rentalcr

Casa De Las Tias is a wonderful B&B in the heart of Escazu.
The owners are very friendly and helpful with all your needs.
You are in the centre of Escazu and you have easy access to all the malls and shops without paying a lot for a taxi from San Jose downtown. This home is located in a peacefull garden and you can hear all day long the birds instead of city noise. My breakfast was served in the garden so that i could enjoy the beautiful setting.
It also offers wireless internet and you have your own phone in the room. I am sure i will be back soon. This place is highly recommended.
