Cayo Guillermo Paradise

This island was our next stop after Cayo Coco. We've heard about beautiful beach on this island - Playa Pilar. That's why we decided to check it out and we've been so much impressed that we stayed there another couple days. So we were looking for the hotel which has average price and Iberostar was the one. It feels a little bit run down in the reception area but rooms were very good, everything functioning (actually we had almost everywhere a problem with the flushing water but here), plus food also was very good - wide choice of different meals. There are couple restaurants a-la carte but we didn't bother to make a reservation for dinner in the morning..
The hotel built in the mediterranean style
P.S. Please note that this hotel is not located at the Pilar beach - it's five-ten minutes driving from the hotel

A wonderful hotel

by A TripAdvisor Member

We have just returned from 2 weeks at the Iberostar Daiquiri and thought this hotel was wonderful! The food, staff, rooms and pool were excellent - the grounds were immaculate and so colourful. Yes, there were mosquitos - but no more than any other tropical destination. We went on 3 trips - 2-day Havana, 2-day Rambo (Trinidad) and the full-day Catamaran cruise - all were very well organised and very good value for money. Our only slight disappointment was the beach as the shoreline was constantly covered in seaweed, but this may have been because of the time of year? Otherwise, an excellent all-round vacation!

Not bad at all...

by A TripAdvisor Member

Jut got back from the Iberostar Daiquiri where we had a fun relaxing time. There's plenty of quiet areas but if you want, the staff will keep you busy. The hotel and pool are quite attractive, the grounds are spectacularly landscaped. The rooms are somewhat plain and worn out...although there's no problem with cleanliness and everything worked. The food was acceptable with just enough variety...nothing to get excited about but I think most people know not to expect much from the hotel cuisine of Cuba. No problem with the bars....plenty of selection and friendly staff. The nightime entertainers are great, managing to put on quite professional shows. They're a very talented crew of dancers and singers. They're the same ones who keep things active (but not frantic) during the day. Beach is pretty but narrow and lots of sea grass floats in during November. But they clean it up twice a day. The water is great...warm, turquoise and sandy out to quite a distance. As at any hotel people have staked out the best spots around the pool or at the beach by 7AM, but unlike any resort I've ever been too there was plenty of loungers to be found at any time of day. We were pleased with our experience here and definitely received value for our money.

Wonderful Time

My boyfriend and I just returned from a wonderful week in the paradise of the Iberostar Daiquiri. We are in our early 20's and were a bit concerned after reading some of the bad reviews that we would be bored at night, eat bad food, and stay in dirty rooms.....Well were were pleasently surprised to have this resort exceed all of our expectations in every way. The resort staff, especially Damion, Marlon, and Paez were outstanding the moment we arrived the made us feel more then welcome, and throughout the entire trip we developed a real friendship with other guests and workers. The food was great, and the drinks never ended (the sure aren't stingy on the rum either!) At night after the wonderful entertainment show and dancing at the disco, we would relocate to the 24 hour lobby bar, where there were always lots of people to meet and chat with. The weather wasn't fantastic, but it didn't put a downer on our trip at all. We did the jungle tour and highly reccomned it, it is well worth the money. The rooms were spotless everyday and relenished with fresh water. I would have loved to spend anonther week...one just wasn't enough. This resort is just great and I have absolutley no complaints and plan to visit there again soon.

The Iberostar Daiquiri was a last minute vacation for us, we were not too sure what to expect of Cuba - or Cayo Coco for that matter.

When we arrive we waited 2.5 hours for our room to be ready for us,
that was really the only "hitch" during our stay.

The room was spotless and a decent size, the two "double" beds were
more like a super single, but we moved them together and had a huge kig
size.

The food after the second day was less than desirable, but I still saw
others filling their plates heaping full - so I guess they didn't mind
the food! The restaurants were not too bad, but towards the end of the
week they were very hard to get a reservation at because they only take
10 people per sitting. We did eat at each restaurant during our stay.

The water sports equipment was in pour repair and not open very often,
but they said they are working on that.

The bars were frequently running out of the local Crystal Beer
(draught), and some of the better liqures at funny times, but that is
the only complaint with the beverages.

We rented a car one day and went into some towns, it was very worth
doing if you like a little adventure :)

The grounds were very well kept, and the staff was GREAT and very
FRIENDLY!

I would for sure go back, maybe to Havana next time to get some more
culture out of the experience!

Great Trip - Great People

by A TripAdvisor Member

We just returned from a week at Iberostar Daiquiri Dec 14 to 21. We had a wonderful time. We took our two kids 8 and 11 with us and they had a great time and had lots to do.

The resort was very nice, well kept - everything in good condition. It is small - 300 rooms and very casual - just what we wanted!

We enjoyed the food and drinks - no complaints at all. There was lots of variety and good quality for a big buffet type arrangement - the kids always found something they enjoyed.

The service and the people were FANTASTIC. Everyone was friendly and smiling and helpful all the time.

The crew that does the daily activities and then the entertainment in the evening is AMAZING. This group works all day keeping things runnning smoothly for everyone and then puts on a great show at night.
These people are very talented. They dance one night and then do skits and goofy stuff the next night.

The rooms were nice and clean and provided us with everything we needed. We were concerned about the size of the beds as they are listed as 3/4. They are 3/4 (i.e. not as big as a double), but they had added a single bed in our room so the kids had their own beds.

Our only complaint was that it was windy a lot of the time and we were unable to use the kayaks and paddle boats except for two days. One calm day we had a nice opportunity to go out and snorkel. There are a couple of reefs off shore that the staff will take you to ($10 US), but we never got to do that because of the windy conditions.

There are tours to do, but we only went on the junge tour - drive a motor boat and then snorkel for an hour. It was fun - nothing too spectacular as far as fish goes - fun if you've always wanted to drive a motor boat - no big deal if you do that all the time. We didn't attend any of the other tours, mostly because we didn't want to miss a calm day at the resort. Would have been nice for the kids to see the real Cuba for a bit.

We had a great time. It is a very relaxed, quiet place. The staff were so friendly we hated to have to leave.

If this is what you want then go - if you want a high class, super 5 star hotel where you get fancy food and fancy service then go somewhere else.

Don't know what some of the people that wrote bad reviews were thinking!!!

Have fun.

We had a Blast!!

We had an awesome vacation. The staff were extremely firendly. The food was awesome. We were full at every meal. The accomodations were clean and enjoyable. The maids did their very best to surprise you with a special towel arrangement on your bed.The beach was beautiful, not big, but enjoyable. The only small complaint was the sand fleas. Once we became aware of it we just used some bug spray and we were fine.Marlon and Damien were awesome entertainers. They kept all 4 of our kids enetertained daily and nightly. We would go back in a minute. We talked to many people, some who have been coming to Cuba for over 9 years.
They said this was the best resort they have stayed at. I know we will come back and aslo recommend it to many of our friends. If you get dessert at night say Hey to Paez, he is so cute and so trying to act like a Canadian. Give him some new words to say and he will love you forever.

couldnt be happier

by A TripAdvisor Member

Couldnt be happier with the complex everything was great, the first 3 days there my 11 year old daughter was complaining she was bored, then she got envolved with the kids club, we did not see her for the next 10 days only here and there areobics in the sea on a peddlo, the bannana boat, poy trap rides always busy and always smiling, and at the end of the evening her performance on stage, she loved it and we my husband , daughter (17) and I loved the peace and scenery out lof this world. We done 2 trips one to Jamacia which was great and one to swim with the dolphins in cuba mainland, both were brilliant! also take a cab down to the other beach on the island about 5mins drive for a swim and walk out of this world!

my advice is to not even doubt going GO.

great beach!!
