Melia Cayo Guillermo
a good "5" star experience
the Melia is a 5 star hotel. however a 5 star in cuba is not exactly what we would consider a 5 star. The grounds are most impressive with lots of lush gardens and many surrounding ponds. There are hammocks scattered around the hotel where you can take a small cat nap. the beaches of Cuba are so far my favorite. During low tide the water is not deep enough to actaully swim but just walk 100 meters towards the Sol hotel where they are not affected by low tide as much. There is a long pier which is popular for fishing. We brought our fishing rod and joined the locals early morning and attempted to catch some fish.....we were successful only after changing our bait to shrimps. we met many friendly locals during our time on the pier. the food at the Melia was OK, but not as amazing as we heard it was a year ago. The buffet has a great selection of cheeses and bread. I mostly stuck to my grilled fish, calamari and chicken which they prepare in front of you. Breakfast was my favorite. They have various cereal and milkshakes. I always got some eggs (they prepare it for you at the grill however you want), as well as pancakes and french toast. I finished all meals with fresh fruit. There are 2 a la carte restaurants, the international and the italian. the international was quite good (i had the smokes salmon appetizer, pumpkin curry soup and lobster dinner). the italian was also good (i had the spinach and salmon lasagna). The icecream was delish!
The rooms at the Melia are clean and sacious. there is a small fridge whicih they fill with a large bottle of water and some pop and beer. however, the beer was only refilled once.
overall we had a great time at the melia. How can anybody complain when you have sunshine and an amazing beach????
NOT 5 Star
here this was NOT a five star hotel the rooms were discusting ours smelt of sewage for the first 3 days then it went the pool was always dirty and discustin BUT th drinks were good and the beaches were i mean this white sand and clear water with a peir but the planks on the pier were quite far apart and the food was the same every day and i was ill for 4 days throwing up and so were alot of others here.
