Very close to the Old and the St. Francis of Assisi's Squares, the elegant Raquel hotel recreates the magic of the Hebrew culture and pays homage, by its symbolism, to the female figure, beauty and love. All this is favored by the romantic atmosphere of the prevailing Art Nouveau style of the building, though it co-exists with other eclectic elements in its architecture. The building was built in 1905 as a space for offices, a warehouse and a fabric store. In 1908, it was extended to have its present-day look. It consists of 25 rooms, which have been very carefully designed with a great comfort and decorated with paintings by well-known Cuban painters. An impressive skylight rounds off the atmosphere this charming place. For the most exclusive of tastes, the Raquel hotel has beauty and elegance without equal.

 | | | | Sofitel Sevilla: Cool location, nice pool | Tip Rating: Satisfaction: | | | | |
At the beginning we were a little discouraged when arrived at Sevilla for a 3 nights stay: we were given a first floor room, with a strong smell of mildew and no possibility of opening the window. They got us another room for the next day: nice sights and really comfortable. Good sized rooms, with usual facilities: hairdryer, Satellite TV. No minibar or room service. Breakfast was included and was fine, with variety enough and tasty tropical fruits.
Sofitel Sevilla is the only hotel in Old Havana with a swimming pool and it's worth to have it: it's relaxing to enjoy a bath after a day walking and sightseeing with so much humidity. The patio bar is really nice: fresh and with Cuban musicians playing and singing. They serve snacks and good drinks. Location is most convenient for sightseeing. 5 minutes walking to Cathedral, Plaza de Armas, Capitolio and a lot of things to do and see. Another interesting thing about this hotel is its historical background: Al Capone hired a whole floor, Graham Greene stayed at the Sevilla and mentioned it in his novel "Our man in Havana". Los Frailes Hotel erects just a few steps away from the majestic St. Francis of Assisi's convent and the charming Old Square. The hotel used to be the mansion of the Marquis and Captain of the French Navy, Don Pedro Claudio Duquesne. Once visited by the most select nobility of the time, ecclesiastical dignitaries, military authorities and renowned artists, the house has become today the perfect place to enjoy the silence and the meditation throughout the pleasant afternoons of the old town. The house has rooms with exclusive ambiance: a lobby-bar that is decorated with pieces of art, stained-glass windows, statues of monks made out of copper and altarpieces, and a quiet inner courtyard with a beautiful fountain and an old well. This special hotel, thanks to its mystery and intimacy, is the ideal place for contemplation and meditation and takes us in an imaginary trip to a medieval abbey.

 | | | | Hotel Horizontes Deauville: Keep away Compare Rates NEW! | Tip Rating: | | | | |
At first, this hotel attracted to me when choosing where to stay in Havana, because it was centrally located in the Malecon, in front of the sea, with beautiful sights. Luckily, in the end I decided to book Sofitel Sevilla. We saw the hotel while walking along the Malecon: it was in a really poor condition. Dirty and old façade, without any charm. A couple of days later, we met a family who were staying there and they told us than rooms were even worse than the outside, being the seaview the only really good point.
| | | | Hotel Plaza: Just steps from Old Havana Compare Rates NEW! | Tip Rating: Satisfaction: | | | | |
My tour package came with a buffet breakfast. It's got a good selection of pastries, biscuits, exotic fruits and juice. There are also pancakes, sausage and cheese. The cook will also prepare any styles of eggs. The best part is that you can enjoy your breakfast with a great view of the city at the roof top patio. The room is clean and tidy. And the safe is free, as it is opened by your room key card. The price range that I chose below is only an approximation, as my package includes hotel and flight.
Hotel Plaza is a historic 4-star hotel, which has been serving people since 1905. The magnificant four-storey building is located right at the corner of two streets. The view from the roof top restaurant is excellent. You can see the Malecon and the ocean from here! And don't forget to watch the beautiful sunset from here. Also on the top floor restaurant, there is a wall of photos of famous ppl who have been to the hotel in the past, including Albert Einstein. There are 2 restaurants and a bar in the lobby. The architecture of the lobby is very beautiful, with decorated columns and fountain. This hotel is just steps away from Parque Central, Gran Teatro de la Habana, Capitolio National. It is about a 5-10 min walk to the Revolution Museum and the Malecon, plus all the attractions in Habana Vieja. | | | | "Casas particulares" or particular houses | Tip Rating: Satisfaction: | | | | |
Many people since the changes that took place in the country around '95 began to rent some of their rooms for tourist. Some of these houses are great, with good prices and good owners. The prices depend of the season and the place. In high season, in Vedado (center of havana), one room can be up to 40 bucks nigh. In low season in the same place, 20 bucks. If you prefer to stay near old havana and tipical old houses from the 19 or 18 century, you can choose many of them, even right in the sea shore, in the "malecon", with a great view. In high season, 30-35, low season, 20-25.
Pools? Facilities? Forget about that, we're talking about tipical cuban houses with cuban owners. The great thign of these houses is to live with cubans, in their enviroment, in their houses. You can feel in the houses the real cuban way of life and their daily life.
