Hotel Inglaterra: Classic hotel in Havana

  • The Inglaterra is the oldest hotel in Havana, It's quite nice inside, very colonial style, particularly the restaurant/coffee bar area. Our room had no real window which made it a bit depressing sometimes, though we might have been lucky actually, at least it wasn't noisy.

The hotel's location is excellent for walking around in the old town. it's also next to the Gran Teatro and two minutes from the Capitol. But what I loved most is the terrace ovelooking Parque Central (and the traffic), with good cocktails and live music.
The hotel itself is a National Monument.

Hotel Inglaterra: Gently fading...but bags of nostalgia   Compare Rates NEW!

  • The oldest hotel in Cuba, it is still one of the best.

What it lacks in the opulence and modern amenities found in the seaside resort hotels it more than makes up with bags of character and it's superb location.

The lobby area certainly evokes the colonial period, whilst the bar area is a riot of over-the-top decoration not dissimilar to a London Gin Palace of the Victorian era.

Due to the age of the build, the bedrooms sometime lack the polish of more modern places, but the plumbing and air-conditioning works well (at least by Cuban standards)

The rooftop bar is a great place to relax, and they sometime put on dancing and serve cocktails the equal of anywhere on the Island.

The cafe area on the front of the hotel is also a great place to watch the world go by, although true to colonial times (and some may have a problem with this) Cuban nationals are clearly unwelcome.

  • Staying in Anas Casa Particular made my holiday in Havana just very special. I felt like part of the family without loosing any privacy if needed. Her house is very clean and she has plenty things to offer for people staying there.I stayed there for 4 weeks and didnt want to leave there at all and just can say Ana and Pepe are very good people and will do only the best for you.

the Casa is in a quiet area in Vedado but not far away to all interesting places. You have the use of internet in the house what i found very helpfull as the internet in hotels where very slow or very busy sometimes. Also Ana will make breakfast and dinner for you if you like. Also any trips you want to do..Pepe is the one who can help you and book for you Casas in different places..book your tickets for the bus etc.Even Vedado is a very safe place there is a security guard outside Anas and Pepes casa.I can only recommend this place highly and i have been there now the second time for a month.

Before I left, people told me that a 5-star hotel in Cuba wasn't necessarily a 5-star hotel by North American standards - this obviously doesn't apply to the Melia Cohiba. Conveniently located in the Vedado area, right by the sea, this hotel offers its guests all the services and amenities you can think of - two large swimming pools, various bars and restaurants, free shuttle to La Habana Vieja (a 5 min. ride), clean and spacious rooms with an amazing view of the city and the Malecon, friendly and professional staff. We did however lose power for two days but the hotel provided us with candles, which made for a rather romantic evening!

Hotel Riviera: Hotel with a View
  • Tip Rating:

  • A reasonable quality 5* hotel on the Malecón (I would give it 4* though). Comfortable rooms with view (from both sides, but it's nicer from the entrance side). A Gran Caribe hotel.

Nice view. It's well located for a walk on the Malecón or visiting the Vedado district. Swimming pool. It's a bit far for the old town (Habana Vieja) in my opinion.

Ambos Mundos Hotel: Hemingway's favorite hotel in Havana
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • Ideally positioned two blocks from Havana harbor and the Malecon, just down from the daily artist's market with book and craft sellers in Plaza De Armas.
Could perfectly understand how come this used to be Ernest Hemingway conveniently home as its secs away from all the lovely bars like Floridita, Bodeguita del Medio, Dos Hermanos etc:) I wouldnt mind either:)
We loved the terrace on its roof - breathetaking views and magic in the air while the band plays the cuban music...

    Sofitel Sevilla: Sevilla
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • The Sevilla Biltmore, as it was known before the Revolution, was one of the establishments owned and run by Havana?s Mafia network. Santo Trafficante Junior had shares in it and the Cuban-Italian owner, Amletto Battisti, was the kingpin of the city?s lottery racket. The hotel has a rather curious layout but its public areas are very attractive. The prevailing decorative style is, as one would expect, Andalusian, with a profusion of lustre-glazed cuerda seca tiles. The lobby and courtyard bar are welcoming and the Sevilla is one of the only three hotels in the area with a pool (the other two are the Parque Central and the Saratoga).
We had a lovely breakfast here and checed a couple of times the Internet - unfortunately not very succesfully as the conncetion was really slow.
This seemed to us the most expensive hotel in Havana during Christmas with $270 rate for the double room..

This 5-star former Hilton has 25 stories, and can be easily reconized by a large fresco on the front wall of the building by a famous Cuban artist named Amelia Pel?ez. The air conditioned lobby and bar is a nice place to escape from the burning sun...which was exactly the reason I went in.

Park View: Hotel type tourist accomodation   Compare Rates NEW!
  • Tip Rating:
  • The location in "Old Habana" is oké to visit and walk around the City !

There are no unique qualities except the location.
The elevator mostly doesn'work which is unpleasant for persons staying on the second floor and have to take the stairs upto the 7th to have breakfast.
Servants are definitly unfriendly - the reception is working unprof.
But all Hotels in Cuba are from the state !
    So better go private !!

Casa del Cientifico: Casa del Cientifico on Paseo del Prado
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • Beautiful colonial building with lofty ceilings and lots of marble where the nation's president lived at the turn of the century. Built in 1919 and recently renovated, it is sumptuously adorned with rococo furnishings. Neoclassical interior courtyard and balcony overlooking the Prado. Huge air-conditioned rooms, 5 with private bath, 6 with shared bath and one suite. Luxurious, intimate, wood-panelled dining room and lounge in classic style. Weekend cabaret on the roof terrace. Room rates are very frienly for Havana, even Christmas period, actually closer to casa particulare range than the hotels.
    Advance booking highly recommended.
This hotel, located in the centre of Havana, is a real gem.
