Best bet, good price, cozy place

Unique Quality: Hostal Valencia has all!
Cheap, its a cozy colonial hotel in the middle of the historical part of Old Havana (Habana Vieja), and the price is good, not the cheapest but low.
If you want to make a reservation for this hotel do it early since they only have 9 rooms.

Hostal Valencia belongs to the Habaguaex hotel chain

Charming Little Place

The Hostal Valencia is a charming little place located in the heart of Habana Vieja. A small number of rooms surround an inner garden courtyard, where artworks are sold and breakfast is served. The courtyard is truly lovely, filled with potted plants and cute white lattice.

The rooms have everything you could need, with comfortable beds, minibar, television with cable TV, a safe and some come with balconies. The bathrooms are a little odd, with both the toilet and shower just partitioned off from the main room area, but this is hardly an inconvenience unless you have major privacy issues.

The staff were absolutely magical. The lady who serviced our rooms was charming, the man behind the bar downstairs was a great source of amusement (he let us stay after closing hours one evening so we could finish off a pyramid made of empty beer bottles) and the lady who served us breakfast gave us impromptu Spanish lessons. Needless to say, their wonderful hospitality was rewarded with a tidy tip at the end of our stay.

If there's one issue, it's the noise. Habana Vieja isn't a quiet place of a morning, and you're unlikely to sleep through all the hustle and bustle that kicks off every morning at about 7.30.

Another thing to watch for: if you're a tall person, try to avoid the room called Xatima. It's larger in floor space than all the other rooms... but has a strangely low ceiling. For shorties like us, this wasn't a problem. Don't say I didn't warn you though.

Unique Quality: Attached to the hostal are a couple of shops - a restaurant famous for its rice dishes, a cigar shop, and a place that sells some local artworks. Tours also run out of the reception area - chat to the tour operator if you have any questions about getting around Havana, or need a taxi called for you, or anything else.

There's also a free mojito upon arrival. They're not bad, either.

Old Havana Inn

Unique Quality: At the nostalgia bar, you can find the best music of the fifties. The great music of the period, and boleros performed by prestigious musicians. It is a unique opportunity for you to offer a toast to your luck, featuring the cocktail of the house " white sheets".
And there is not a finer place to eat paellas in all of havana than our restaurant, winner of the best prize at the international paella's contest in sueca, spain for the past two years

Best Paella!

by ainsleigh about La Paella

This small Spanish restaurant located inside Hostal Valencia has everything for a great dinner out: great service, great food and drinks, and good entertainment. The atmosphere is breezy and comfortable. An open roof, hanging vines everywhere, and cast iron tables and chairs gives this place a very patio feel. I thought the ambience was very romantic and natural, and that was one of the highlights of La Paella for me.

The paella is delicious. Two people share the house special, which includes chicken, shrimp and lobster for 9.00 CUC each. There are several appetizer options as well as an extensive drink menu. Entertainment consisted of a band with a Flamenco dancer, but they went with interesting American light-rock song choices: I've never heard a stranger version of Dust in the Wind. I would have preferred more traditional music, but it wasn't terrible or anything. Definitely worth a visit if you're a paella fan!! Paella! There are several different kinds with combinations of pork, chicken, shrimp, fish and lobster.

Hotel in Havana Viejo

by drmspamer

What hotel would you recommend, at a very reasonable price in Old Havana, for 2 Americans, who want to walk through the town, but also enjoy salsa dancing at night (not the expensive clubs, but local places).
Thank you for the info!

In recent years, many new hotels have sprung up in Habana vieja. It is fairly safe for you to walk around in the old part of town. the prices are around 75 cuc. remember when you change the money into cuc from us dollas you would loose about 20 per cent so it becomes around 100 usd. perhaps you should try to book it on line since on line they can only charge usd not cuc since it is not a legal tender.
My favourite is hostal valencia and if it is available, it is rather charming and centrally located. can look at my hotel pages in havana for the last hotel i stayed, since it is very rarely that i have to stay in a hotel in havana

Well all the price for a room in a hotel in Old Havana (Habana Vieja) its upper than 80 CUC, hotels like Hotel Plaza cost 80 CUC a double peer night. But if you want save a lot of money you can stay in a particular house for only 25 or 30 CUC peer night.
