Roof top breakfast
The lobby is welcoming and fresh but the bedrooms are shabby. The bathrooms are fine, though. However, the lift works, the bar is always open and the staff are wonderful. The location of the hotel is perfect for those wanting to explore old Havana on foot, visit the theatre, museums, art galleries or just soak up the atmosphere on the Prado. I did treat myself to a one night stay at the Hotel Nacional on my birthday and lovely though it obviously was, it lacked the atmosphere of the Lido and it felt as if I could have been anywhere in the World, which is not what I enjoy.
Unique Quality: The food in the roof-top cafe is excellent and very cheap. I did eat there every night and was never disappointed. The view from there, where you also eat breakfast, is superb, the sunsets being particularly spectacular. The staff are friendly and very helpful. Lots of different nationalities stay at the Lido and this makes for a great atmosphere.

For Cheap People Like Me...
My family would like to go to Cuba for this coming Christams, and I was wondering if there were cheap ways to go about this. Maybe some of you have found good deals and wouldn't mind sharing them to somebody who picks up pennies?? We are from Canada and good places to stay, when we should go, and all that good stuff would be great if somebody knows what the best deals are. Anything helpful is welcome because I haven't the faintest idea where to begin.
For future hints, Thank you all so much!!
Re: For Cheap People Like Me...
For air fares and travel packages, I usually call my Friend Ernesto (416) 625-1765 , he can you hook up from whatever it is that your family needed for the trip. I get good rates from him and Ive been using him for a couple of years now. He can also get you a private apartment for your family which is a lot cheaper than getting a hotel room. heres the link to his site

tell him Juan Chino recommended him.
or you can send AnjaV (VT NAME) a message shes knows a lot about Cuba.
Cheers,
Juan Chino

Gracias Chino :)
What would you like to do and where to stay is the number 1 question?
Tour, beach, city?
Do you know Villa Armonia Tarara?
Its a great neighborhood right outside Habana at the beach of Playa del Este. They rent out houses ... villas ...
Check this out:

Re: Re: For Cheap People Like Me...
Thanks for all these great links. Do you personally think that it is better to rent a villa than to stay in a hotel? And are there any tips on keeping the trip as cheap as possible? I do know that planning on going during high season sort of dismisses that question...
Thanks again!
Susan
Re: Re: For Cheap People Like Me...
The most cheap ...
Well you say you want to go with a family ... which sounds like a serious vacation, not back packing.
You can stay in Casa Particulars which is, after the campismo's the most cheap to stay.
Make a calculation, see what the less expensive hotel costs for the whole family and see what a villa costs.
p.a Hotel Lido Havana will cost you about $25 pp
A casa $30 per room
A villa at Tarara from about $65 per villa, in the last case you stay at the beach and are totaly free and have a whole house ... you are able to cook your own dinner etc which makes it less expensive as well ...
I have no idea about how many persons you talk and also no idea what you want to do in Cuba ...
So maybe you have to be more specific to get the right answers
