Hostal Los Frailes by Havaname Los Frailes Hotel erects just a few steps away from the majestic St. Francis of Assisi's convent and the charming Old Square. The hotel used to be the mansion of the Marquis and Captain of the French Navy, Don Pedro Claudio Duquesne. Once visited by the most select nobility of the time, ecclesiastical dignitaries, military authorities and renowned artists, the house has become today the perfect place to enjoy the silence and the meditation throughout the pleasant afternoons of the old town. The house has rooms with exclusive ambiance: a lobby-bar that is decorated with pieces of art, stained-glass windows, statues of monks made out of copper and altarpieces, and a quiet inner courtyard with a beautiful fountain and an old well. This special hotel, thanks to its mystery and intimacy, is the ideal place for contemplation and meditation and takes us in an imaginary trip to a medieval abbey.

by havanaivan Location On the narrow alleys of Old Havana, the Los Frailes Inn stands just a few steps away from the majestic convent of Saint Francis of Assisi and the populous Old Square. Right at the entrance, a copper sculpture of a monk welcomes visitors, inviting them to an imaginary trip to a medieval abbey. Old monestary converted into a hotel. Very beautiful inside and out. One block from Plaza de San Francisco where you can get a taxi to just about anywhere. Good location. If you take a taxi from the airport, the driver may not know how to get to the hotel because it is on a pedestrian street. Tell him to drop you off at Plaza de San Francisco. You can walk the one block to the hotel. Most of the staff are very pleasant but, like anywhere, some can be "indifferent". One of the staff, Rene, became our tour guide for one day, however, he had his agenda and we had ours. If you can read a map, you don't need a tour guide. Just tell the taxi where you want to go and he'll take you there. That's about all Rene did was ask me where I wanted to go and then he'd relay it to the cab driver. The hotel rooms do not have any windows. It was kind of strange since you'd almost forget what time of day it was. The remodeling was exquisite however, like everything in Cuba, the duality presented itself in the fact that while the floors were brand new, the matresses felt like they were from the 1950's. The staff are on call 24 hours a day, so if you want a drink at the bar at 4:00am, someone will get you one. The only problems were that we did not have a key to the room safe (which I guess we could have ask for one) and we got charged for a phone call we did not make (only one US dollar). I'd stay there again easily without any second thoughts. And it only cost us $50 US per night.

Few meters of the Convent of San Francisco de As?s and of the Old Square, U?ll find the Los Failes Inn . What was the marquis Pedro Claudio Duquesne's mansion at the beginning of the XVIII century, Captain of Ship of the French Armada, visited by the most select nobility in the time, ecclesiastical dignities, military authorities and artists of prestige, it is today a commendable place for the delight of the silence and the reflection in the pleasant afternoons of the ancient city. Enigmatic and intimate, given to the view and the meditation, this special place transfers us, imaginarily, to an abbey of the Middle Ages. All the workers are dressed like middle-ages monks and the service is good.
