On Mercaderes street, few steps from the Old Square, the Meson de la Flota opens its doors, keeping the legends of the Galeon fleets in Havana. The Inn has five comfortable rooms and a restaurant for eighty people, following the tradition of travelers who found to sleep on the top and a place to eat on the ground floor. The whole place decorated worth sea motifs, with small replicas of old vessels and the grace and passion of a flamenco "tablao" invites you to enjoy the city at night. Nearby places of interest: Saint Francis of Assisi Square, Basilica of Saint Francis of Assisi, Museum of Religious Art, Museum of Rum, Cafe Taberna "Benny Moré", Mesón de la Flota Restaurant, Plaza Vieja (Old Square), Santo Angel Restaurant, House of Alexander V. A maritime-themed restaurant with a bit different than usual menu and actually good food. One of my good experiences about cuisine in Havana. Wine by the bottle and the glass. Flamenco show in the evening.

Very closed to the magical Plaza Vieja, located in the ground floor of the Mesón de la Flota Inn, resembles an ancient colonial Spanish tavern and in its decoration visitors can find sailors's symbols, tiny replicas of ancient vessels and flags indicating the maritime sign code. Lucky visitors to this unique site will have the chance to select from a wide variety of wines from different countries and enjoy the exquisite Spanish tapas as well as cold and hot entrées, delicious main dishes and creole and Spanish deserts.
Those who visit this unique place will enjoy the art expressions of the live flamenco music and dancing performed by cultural groups 4 000 nautical miles away from their place of origin. Langosta borracha con frutas del Caribe
The lobster should be sautéed in butter and red pepper until it is sealed. The orange juice is added, together with diced pineapple and papaya, letting the mixture cook for a few minutes. The medallion-shaped potato puree are grilled until they turn golden and are then separated until ready to be served. The cooked lobster is flamed with the Silver Dry rum. Grilled potatoes and fresh vegetables are served as decoration with the dish.
This was the first restaurant we visited during our visit to Havana, and it certainly set the bar high! This dimly lit and airy Spanish restaurant features a beautiful romantic decor of solid wood, a lofty high ceiling and an open, relaxed layout. Seafood dominates the menu, with several cheap tapas options like hummous and tortilla.
This place really earned it's high rating though with the amazing Flamenco music and dancing group 'Compania Sandra Bara', the free in-house entertainment. The dancers are so precise in their steps... almost surgical... and the top-notch musicians don't miss a beat either. We picked up one of their CD's we were so impressed.
Excellent food, good service, and great entertainment make El Meson de la Flota one of the best restaurants we visited in Havana. Shrimps Catalan style: Shrimp in a spicy tomato sauce with rice. It was delicious. Also, the seafood skewers were really good, especially the white fish.
Located in Old Havana it is the only place where U can enjoy your meal and listen live flamenco music always perfomed by the best musicians in this specialty. The restorant has no walls to the street so U will enjoy the fresh air from the sea nearby and U can look the people passing by. Th food it?s really good. U can eat tipical cuban food or spanish, paellas, pork or cuban sweets like flan or pudin. The Paella, for sure.
