Hotel Nacional de Cuba
Very expensive though!!! $120 USD per night Its got all the typical tourist could want.
I used the business center to send emails.

The pool is very nice and the breakfast is only $15 for all you can eat and fresh squeeze juice.
Great place to hold business meetings.

In La Havana, the best hotel is 'HOTEL NACIONAL DE CUBA'. There are many others hotel in La Havana with different tariffs.
In Varadero, you can fin many hotels like any other city in the world.
The hotels in the interior part of cuba, are very much different. no luxury but they have the basic. They are clean and very, but very cheap. Make sure you pay in US Dolars, otherwise, if you pay in Cuban pesos, you may find a lot of surprises.

This is where I stayed accross from the hotel Nacional de Cuba. At $30 USD per night it was a relief to my wallet.
The best part is that I just went over to the Hotel to use their pool and business center.
What more could you ask for?
La Madre (the mother), is extra special and will treat you with the utmost respect and care.
The English is not the greatest...but thats all part of the fun. Kindness and courtesy speak best anyways. Walk out balcony.
Seperate Bath.
Spacious and clean.
Vedado

I really like the whole district, despite the lack of time to explore it more. The very first night in Havana I actually went to the famous bar El Gato Tuerto (really cool bar, though you pay 5 CUC as entrance). There's often live music, different performances organized. Great atmosphere.
Other places to see in Vedado: Casa de las Americas and also the famous ice-cream Coppelia.
Hotel Habana Libre and Hotel Nacional de Cuba, two of the biggest hotels in the city, are both located in Vedado.

HOTEL NACIONAL
A part of recent Cuban History. Even if you don't sleep here, the hotel deserves a visit to drink a daikiri in the backyards gardens or admire its wooden interiors.

In center of Havana you have the hotel Nacional. It is very expensive, even for European standards. Other travellers told me that it is one of the better hotels in the world. I only visited the hotel, but it is a sight!
I reccomend privat appartements. We payed USD 15 à night for a 2 room appartement with bathrooms to share. It was a part of a larg family appartement.

The Nacional, the prized gem of the Cuban hotel industry, is a mythical vantage point in the heart of Havana, the capital of Cuba.
Inaugurated on December 30, 1930, the Nacional is one of the most classical and emblematic hotels in Havana. Its luxury, elegance, distinction and first-class services remain intact after six decades of undisputed leadership in the Cuban hotel industry. Guests at the Hotel Nacional enjoy splendid, comfortable rooms, including a Presidential Suite. Special Services such as the Apartment of the Republic and the Executive floor , ideal for businessmen due to their representative and varied facilities.
The National's spacious Conference rooms are suitably equipped for professional events. Among its many charms are the Cabaret Parisien which, along with the Tropicana, is a must for those wishing to make the most of the warm Havana nights. The Nacional is the Gran Caribe Group's most emblematic hotel.
Surrounded by lovely gardens, it occupies a privileged location on a promontory right next to Havana's celebrated Malecón. The hotel's magnificent location offers one of the most striking views of Greater Havana, and is just a few minutes away from famous beaches such as Santa María del Mar.

I have a spacious and private apartment in a great location. It has a bedroom with air conditioning and phone, a living room with color TV, a small kitchen
with refrigerator, and a bathroom with hot water. It is one block from the Hotel Nacional, one block from the Malecon, 8 minute walk to the University of Havana, and 10 minute

"Hotel Nacional"
"Poor and rich" - my last experience in Habana. I know - giving some soft drinks as gift for X-mas for a family in center Habana - drinking local cocktails in this famous Hotel.
What a difference.
But I had the occasion to enjoy this show of dancers at the patio of hotel Nacional
"Hotel Nacional"
The entrance to the hotel is impressive. The marble floor (Italian) ) the many small trading places - the entrance to many restaurants - the bars !!
Great to taste the olden glory of this Maffia Paradise.
Enjoy the view on the Malecon - have a "Pina Colada" or "Mojito"
"Enjoy the local drinks"
"The bar" (acceptable prices - 3 dollars for a mojito ) near the best place to have a relaxing time and finalize your diary of Cuba and meet people like we did - some spanish travellers - leaving the same day for Europe but just picted up a last impression of Habana and Cuba
"Another view on the Hotel"
Impressive place -
"Another view on the backside"
Ingrid - a friend of mine. Our last day in Cuba/Habana and enjoying the view - remembering her first trip to Habana and this hotel at the occasion of 20 years marriage.
"Famous visitors"
The hotel Naticional is simply the best in Town - Many famous visitors are pictured and "framed" in the hall of the famous - on the way down to the many restaurants in the hotel.
People say that Miss Campbell had a longer private talk with Mr Castro himself than many other officials.Do you wonder ??
"Hotel Nacional"
Near the coast ( Punta Brava, on the Taganana hill) - customary site of pirate landings, rises the "Hotel Nacional de Cuba" since December 30, 1930, the “flagship” of Gran Caribe. A visit is a must - have a local drink and enjoy the galleries
"Hotel Nacional"
Dancing and keep on dancing - that is Cuba !!

St John's Hotel is close by and an old traveler's favourite. Excellent food in the restaurant next door too!

Casas particulares are cheap (20-35 CUC per room and night).
Try http://www.casaparticular.info/
-> Havanna
-> Vedado
There are plenty of casas listed, you will surely find one close to Hotel Nacional.

If you contact 'Pototo' at pototo1956@yahoo.com.mx
or Vic at fallingnow@terra.com they could arrange accomodation for you in clean but basic casa particulares. Lovely to be with local people and to recieve personal attention and the best of local knowledge.
They come well reccommended. Look them both up on virtual tourist.
Good luck. Wish it was me that was going back to Cuba!!

I stayed in Hotel St John and it is okay, but would recommend you stay in a casa particular as much better value and better chance to really see Cuba and meet Cuban people.

The advice you have received is good. A very good hotel - more expensive than Hotel St. John or Hotel Vedado but less than Hotel Nacional (and nearby) is Hotel Victoria.
Re: Budget Accomodation Close to Hotel Nacional
by Perdomo
Hey Bro, check out the Hotel Victoria, Hotel St Johns, Hotel Colina, Hotel Vedado, those are all part of Gran Caribe and they look prett inexpensive...best bet, go to Cuban Connection and email them, ask for a agancy quote (much better than public rate) and off you go....
Art in Cuba and carnival
by deltaqueen
Travelling to Havana on 4th August and staying in Hotel Nacional for 4 days before going to Varadero. Wondered if anyone could tell me where I can find nice, cheap art work to decorate my house and if it's alright to bring it back with me.
Vedado doesn't seem like the most exciting of places, so trying to plan some good memories.
Also, wondered whether the festival will be easily spotted along the Melacon or if there is a more specific location? Also heard that theer is a hip hop festival taking place and if anyone could tell me more info about it, please reply?
Thanks
Tropicana Show
by dferro
Hi, a couple of us are visiting Havana for a week and were thinking of catching the Tropicana caberet. Does anyone know how much it costs per person? I've read a varying price from 60$ - 150$/pax...
Thanks, Dawn
Re: Tropicana Show
by galwaybay
Hi Dawn,
I was there in August. Prices were CUC 65 and 85 including a bottle of rum and small snacks. Be aware that although the place opens about 8:30 p.m the show doesn't start until about 10:00. Ends about 11:45 p.m. You will find that Cuban time is not always spot on! It's a huge place, all very touristy, but the show is spectacular. However, I found the lighting accompanying the show was a bit mind blowing! You could also try the Cabaret Parisien at the Hotel Nacional on Thursday and Saturday evenings. You don't have to be a guest of the hotel, so you would need to make reservations. Not half as good as the Tropicana but half the price.
Enjoy Cuba.
