The rooms are spacious and very clean. Service was prompt and friendly. The water in the pool was a little cold at this time of the year (December) but there are always a few who brave it. You can always have a drink at the bar on the poolside.
The food at the buffet passes, but no more than that.

Hi! We will be spending one week in Havana in January and it looks like we're gonna have to choose between those four hotels: Occidental Miramar, Melia Cohiba, Melia Habana or Nacional. What we really want to do during our week in Havana is tour around the old city and visit some Hemingway-related sites. Any tips on those four hotels?
Can't really help...but the Nacional is nice...but way from the action!
Or try...http://www.trivago.co.uk/havanna_33570 for reports on those hotels. Personally I would recommend Hotel Beltran de Santa Cruz. In the heart of Old Havana and very comfortable, though not on the scale of the ones you mentioned. However, it is well placed for El Floridita, La Bodeguita del Medio and Hotel Ambos Mundos.
If your main interest is touring around old Havana, I would recommend you to stay closer. I stayed at Hotel Plaza, just 5 mins walk to the old city. Check my Havana page for more details. The streets of old Havana are very interesting, you'll definitely enjoy it more if walking around rather than taking a cab.
Hi...from those for I for sure will recomend U to stay at Nacional. Is the best one, the best service, the best amenities and the view from the garden is awesome. Melia Habana and Occidental Miramar are far from the center, and even more far from Finca La Vigia, the place where Hemingway used to live. Melia Cohiba is in Vedado, as Nacional, but the service is not so good as Nacional.
If U want to try different options I recomend to stay in a casa particular. They are cheaper and U'll find that they have exactly the same commodities U'll find in any hotel. And add th4e plus that U'll be in touch with cubans and their real life. In Centro Habana and Vedado there are lot of good places to choose from.
I used to live in Havana for 27 years so as U can imagine I know it very well and I left many good friends there. I could give U some phones and names so they can help U or just show some of the beatiful hidden places of Havana.... have fun!
Thanks guys for all the info, I'm kinda stuck with those 4 choices this time around but next time (because yes, there will be a next time!) I'm definitely going to look for a casa particular.
Thanks again!
Best choice in Havana are the hotels of the Habaguanex Group ... absolutely!

Good luck

Forget about the Hotels find a Casa Particular for about 1/3 the cost and have more fun
