If you want a unique real colonial experience in Banes, consider staying at this guest house, owned by the lovely Miss Gilma Quinones Hernandez. The massive house offers one room that is two stories high and has a walkout onto a sweeping massive porch covered in tropical flowers and tamarind. This porch is your independent entrance. The family lives in the rest of the house, but they will gladly give you a tour of the home, including a tour on the roof.
Although in need of some repairs, the room rented out is very spacious, gracious and comfortable, with a good bathroom with hot water. The guest house, which is a striking building, is a couple of blocks away from the town centre, but conveniently on the main road leaving town to Guardalavaca.
The owner, Gilma, is cousin of Luis Quinones Garcia, who is the main guide at the Banes Museum, a must-see stop in Banes.
