Hotel Playa Costa Verde, Near Guardalavaca: Nice Location!
This hotel has well kept grounds with a lovely beach which you access via a wooden bridge. The bridge passes over a nature reserve from which you can see a variety of birds, that include heron, egret and turkey vultures. The excellent beach has plenty of sunbeds available (no charge) with some sunshades.Plenty of trees on the beach if you require extra sunshade. The water is crystal clear and safe for swimming, although you will find some rocks along the foreshore.
Our room 1117 was on the ground floor. The rooms are set out in blocks and come with either a nice terrace or a large balcony.Although the room was comfortable, spacious and clean it was starting to look a bit dated.Within the room there is hairdryer,fridge,TV,coffee-maker and a/c.
The buffet restaurant always had a good selection of food, with several cooking stations where you could get fresh fish, meat and pasta. The other restaurants were Italian,Japanese and Vegetarian. If you wish to eat in one of these you need to book in advance.
Well cared for gardens.

Club Amigo Atlantico: Nice 3+ Star Accomodations
We stayed in a gardenview room, the cheapest rooms available on the resort. I had read so many horrible reviews, but I went with an open mind and armed with the knowledge that I could always upgrade to a better room if it was really as bad as they say. I honestly wonder what some people are thinking when they write a review. Our room - in the 600 block - was small but clean. It was definitely older - the tile floor was showing signs of wear - but the beds were very comfortable. There are no balconies in these rooms which would be my major complaint. But you know what? If you want a room with a balcony then you just have to pay a little extra to get one. That's just the way it is. I inquired on getting a bigger room and for $16.80 CUC per day (so about $115 for a week) we could have upgraded to a Villa - the nicest rooms you can get in the resort. I didn't bother, there was nothing wrong with the room I had, for the price I paid for it. The TV and the AC both worked great. My other minor complaint is that there are no fridges in these rooms either.
The grounds are incredibly landscaped, and there are 3 separate swimming areas. The nicest of these is at the swim-up bar which overlooks the ocean.
The gardenview rooms are very close to the entertainment area and one of the pools and buffet restaurants. Our room was far enough away that we couldn't hear the entertainment from our room. It was a short walk - about 2 minutes - to the 24 hour pool bar and additional swimming pools. Not all rooms have an ocean view, in fact, some are quite a distance from the ocean. If that is important to you make sure you get what you want when you book.

Rio de Luna and Rio de Mares: Two hotels in one
These are sister hotels, a few kilometers west of Guardalavaca, where you can enjoy the facilities of both hotels. On a nice beach, these hotels offer very good value in a very pleasant atmosphere. Most guests are on one or two week packages, where you get the biggest bang for your buck. They offer the same programs as all the other all inclusive hotels, with the same friendly and efficient service. I have been to a lot of the areas hotels and I liked this one for its size....not too big and not too small - Just right! Of the two, my choice would be Rio de Mares.
Because you can enjoy the the services of both hotels, you have twice as many choices of restaurants and entertainment. Always lots to keep you busy.
I particularly like the surroundings of the hotel...a nature trail on one side, and a beautiful lagoon separating the hotels from the luxury Rio'dOro hotel. There is a long bridge across the lagoon, which offers some good bird and reptile watching.
Outside the hotel is a stable for horsebackriding, with lots of countryside to visit. Also only a bicycle away are some interesting lagoons, a zoo and a restaurant on a bay.
A short taxi ride away is the village of Guaradalavaca where you will find shops and an artisan market.

Playa Costa Verde: Playa Pesquero- outside of Guardalavaca
1 week all inclusive cheap package deal.
This hotel sits between Hotel Pesquero and Blau Costa verde, all sharing the same beach, 10 miles west of Guardalavaca. Pesquero is the largest of the three; Blau is the smallest of the three. It is a beautiful hotel with all the services of a five star resort. No complaints.
I have stayed in all three, and I would suggest the Pesquero is a little too large with long walks to beach. The Blau, Costa verde has the best food, but the rooms are not as spacious as the other two.
PLAYA COSTA VERDE WOULD BE MY CHOICE HOTEL ESPECIALLY IF YOU HAVE SMALL CHILDREN. The rooms are very large, and the grounds very flat. The lobby , where the main bar is, is very open and visible, making it easy to keep an eye on a wondering child. The nursery is well planned, stocked and staffed, and has its own nursery pool. There is also a wading pool attached to the main pool, so everyone can be happy.
This beach offers a unique opportunity of snorkeling right off the beach in the coral that forms the corner of the LTI Maritim section. There is also a wonderful river to kayak up.
There is also a lovely wetland that you walk through to get to the beach, offering a great opportunity for bird watching.

Las Brisas: Best hotel in town of Guaradalavaca
1 week all inclusive package
This hotel has two parts - the older hotel building and the villas. It is a must to book into the villa part. You will still enjoy the advantages of both parts, but the rooms are much nicer in the villa portion.
This is a popular hotel, and so is very busy most of the time, but the food is good and the entertainment is very good.
The beach is not for snorkelers, but trips are available at extra cost. Even swimmers may find the beach too shallow, but a ten minute walk away is the Cuban beach where the swimming is better.
Watch for the statue of John Lennon.
Try to get into the restaurant at the beach, where all the waiters dispaly their talents.....magician, trumpeter, clarinetist, opera star etc.

room in all-inclusive villa
Very cozy, comfortable, air-conditioned place with daily maid service who created art work with my towels. Again - sinful if one cares to know that few kilometers away all Cuban staff live in cramped, bare, hot, run down apartments, often with no running water and their monthly salary is about $5.
