Villa Pinares del Mayari: Log cabins in Cuba

This is a way out of the way hotel, 600 metres up a mountain, 30 kms south of Mayari. It can also be approached from the south. An ex-eco-research facility, it has plenty of room in log cabins that are very clean and comfortable, and is a good place to stop the night after walking in the mountains.
My guess is that it can be crowded if a bus pulls in, otherwise, it is only visited by a few off-the-road travellers looking for Cuba's rainforest. It has a large restaurant and a bar, and a pool with no chlorine, so it is shared with local frogs.

Unique Quality: The log cabins are unusual for Cuba and as they are set right in the forest, hiking first thing in the morning is a real pleasure. Great place to get close to nature. Watch for fern trees and orchids and a wide variety of birds.
A pretty laid back accomodation, all in all.
