Money exchange
by Doug767
You are not allowed to bring Cuban peso's into Cuba (CUC, Cuban peso convertible)
You can change your Euro's or Sterling pounds into CUC's at the Cuban Airport or at your hotel or money exchange offices (I prefer the Airport, slightly better rate than the hotel, was 1.55 in March 06 for sterling) US dollars are not welcome...

Go snorkling, hotel trip cost's about $15.00 USD. bring cheap underwater camera and your own mask. Hotel mask's ok, but basic.. We miss the daily stunts that the activities staff would come up with. Miss the turquoise blue water and the yellow .
Go to Havana for a tour. We paid $25.00 US each for a ten hour (could have been 12) escorted tour ask around at the beach bar.
a polite inquiry here or there will save you a lot of money VS the charter bus gong show.
The most pleasant people.

Although very poor, the people of Cuba are extremely friendly and open. Try not to assume a posture of superiority with these people. Don't be taken back by what would be considered forward behaviour at home. They are quick to make and maintain eye contact and are ready to shake your hand whether as a greeting or parting gesture.
Tipping for services rendered outside of the resorts is accepted practice. Tip at what you feel is a comfortable rate but remember that to them $.50 is the equivalent of about $20.00 for you at home. In your resort, tipping is discouraged but will get you better service if you feel you need it. A one dollar bill, folded and discreetly passed to a bartender or waiter(best way is with a handshake) will secure you royal treatment. Remember, at all times, that these are poor people, so do not flaunt your wealth or possessions in front of them.
When you are in a town or city you may on a rare occasion, be approached by a beggar. If you choose not to give him/her anything they will not be persistant. If you choose to give anything, try to do it when you are leaving a locale, as your actions will attract other nearby beggars who will then approach you.
The Cuban people love their children. Any gift that you might give them for their children will be greatfully appreciated.
Mosquito Repellent-- The Stuff To buy
by becca1980
The best thing to do is go into the shop and buy Repel.. It works like a charm. The bug repellents here in Canada will not work. When I got the Repel and put some on, it helped like a charm. Mosquitoes only come out in the evening when there is no breeze off the water so be prepared buy Repel. It costs about 6 to 10 convertible peso, it's completely worth it.
